Hello. My 12 year old boxer - Sophia - has Cushings. We recently had her retested and her cortisol levels were low. I have stopped the trilostane and am waiting for the vet to get back to me with how we should proceed. Her levels are pretty low and almost Addisons levels. My problem is that while we wait for the vet to get back to us Sophia has been having an issue with urinating in the house. She is excessively thirsty. At night she is up every hour for a drink. I try not to limit her too much because of the disease and the effect on the kidneys. I also let her out every hour that she gets up. She will have accidents in the house of very large quantities. Any suggestions with what to do would be greatly appreciated

I don't have any experience with cushings or bladder issues so I can't offer any advice. But I wanted to send you both good wishes and healing vibes. Hope she feels better soon.

Your girl has all the symptoms of Cushing's. Why did they totally stop the drug? My boy Pete had Cushings and we treated with lysodren. It is a drug where you load the dog for a few days, test and taper the use of the drug. Pete had Addison like symptoms after the loadinig process, so we administered Pred, but he never was diagnosed with Addisons. Cushings is a tough disease as the increased cortisol levels mask symptoms of other disease.

I hope you get answers soon. Google message board for canine Cushings to get some help from others fighting this disease.

Our sweet Rocco had Cushings. He was also treated with lysodren and prednisone. My heart goes out to you - it's such a hard and expensive disease to deal with. We had to monitor his water intake and keep track of it, so we would know when to reduce the lysodren. He ended up having to wear a diaper most of the time which was a life saver and gave us peace of mind. He was pretty good about getting outside in time to potty, but he would dribble at times and I was always worried about night time accidents. I had waterproof sheets on all of the couches and his bed. Good luck, I hope things work out ok because truthfully this disease sucks!

My boxer girl Ashley had cushings. I had to let her go last year at 13 due to cushings, and heart/fluid issues. She was diagnosed with cushings right after she turned 10 so really didnt want to do anything painful or evasive due to her age. My vet suggested Anapryl, which is also used in humans to treat althemeizers. For about a year and a half she was on 15 mg but then had to up it to 30 mg towards the end. It really did help her, in addition to adding a doggie door because she really couldnt hold it for more than a few hours anymore, this med did keep my girl happy for another couple years. I think the heart/fluid became the most pressing issue towards the end.
