Cryptorchid surgery tomorrow for Tucker

I have to thank all of you wonderful Boxer owners out there for your warnings on the use of ACE in our beautiful babies. Tucker goes in for his bilateral cryptorchid surgery tomorrow and I feel I am well armed to prevent the use of ACE before his procedure.

I am very apprehensive about this surgery because they cannot feel or find his testicles. I expect he will have a fairly large incision. Does anyone have any insight out there as to where they will be cutting him or how big the incision might be?

Again, thank you all for your help in educating new members to the Boxer community. Any kind and happy thoughts you can send to our little Tucker will be much appreciated.

Hi! we just had our brindle boxer boy Chester done 2 weeks ago. I was apprehensive as well, they let him come home the same day. They couldnt find one of his testicles so had to go into his tummy....

He was mopey the first nite and voila, literally the next day he was trying to fly down the stairs, ruff ruff outside and act like he didnt just have major surgery. He is FINE, the hardest part is keeping him inactive.. what a nitemare that was. The scar really doesn't look that bad!

Thank you so much for sharing your experience Kelli. It really helps put me a little more at ease (if that is at all possible). My husband and I just finished the discussion about his scar and whether we thought they would keep him overnight. The upside is he is an all-star cuddler so we think he might like the extra pampering and forced down-time.

We're glad to hear Chester recovered like a champ!

Oh your welcome! It seems your a bit concerned about the scar. WELL, it is a scar and since they had to go into his tummy, the scar seems to go from the side of his 'penis' up a bit... All stitches/scars look a little scary don't they? And he really didn't swell that much, I was SURE he was going to.. nothing. AND he didn't even really lick the wound which is so odd to me, I was sure he was going to go ape trying to play with the stitches.

He is a bit bruised, the vet said that is normal and it is going away. Honestly, you never would have guessed he had major surgery, I really think it was harder on the humans than the doggies!

I did treat him to a nutra grain strawberry bar every day during recovery, I read that the glucose is a great helper for dogs that have surgery.

I just asked Chester if he minds his scar and he is of the opinion that he occasionaly eats his own poop... so he doesn't care what others think! sniff!

Post back after the surgery and keep me informed! Oh and our vet rocks and called us right after the surgery and said he was doing well, ask if your tech/vet can do the same!

our boy Cassius had the same surgery done last summer, on his 1st birthday at that! (poor boy.. but he did get a steak all to himself that night because we felt so guilty..) He was Cassius-the-One-Nut-Wonder for a while until the surgery. He seemed tired the first night, but was just about back to normal the next day. We even took off the victorian collar (is that what its called?) the next day too.. we just had to keep an eye on him to make sure he didn't lick the stitches. You can barely even see the scar from the surgery. Its been about 6.5 months. Hope Cassius's story helps!

Our Rocky was fine after his surgery 3 wks ago...walking stiffly, very sleepy the 1st night. The incisions were scary looking but now I have to "feel" them to locate them. By day 2 he was back to normal and frustrating me trying to get wet in the hose as I watered my plants! Good luck to you & Tucker.

I'm very glad to report that our little Tucker had a very smooth surgery and is feeling much much better. I can't tell you how relieved I was to hear from the vet that "his heart didn't skip a beat" and that his testicles were right where she made the incision. I don't think things could have worked out better. We took him home the first night and he was very sleepy, but the pain meds kept him comfortable. The second night he really perked up and even felt a little playful. The good news is he is recovering very well. His incision is only about 2 inches long and it seems to be healing well. He does not like the collar they gave him to keep him from licking the stiches, but he doesn't seem to be too interested in them at this point.
