Cropping the ears?

My husband and I had discussed cropping of our puppy ears, (I think that is what it is called) and had agreed not to do it. But now that she is getting a little older I have noticed that her ears don't sit evenly on her head. One ear sits up higher on her forhead than the other. So now I'm thinking if we cropped them it would look better. Does anyone have any advice on this? We are new at being a boxer owner and don't now the pro's and con's of having it done. We don't want to cause her any discomfort, but we want her to look her best. She is already a beautiful girl, we don't want her to look any different I would attach a picture, but I can't figure out how to make them smaller.

What is a little older?? Ear cropping should be done between 6-10weeks, some will do it until 12 weeks but that is it. Not to mention you have to find a good place to have it done as with a bad crop you will ruin her look for life.

Here is a good thread for you

Personally, unless you plan on showing your dog I wouldn't have it done. Enjoy those floppy ears!!

Miss Molly is 10 weeks old now. I think the floppy ears are cute, but the one is sitting higher up than the other so I wasn't sure. Thank you for the links. I will be checking them out. I have been trying to find some information on it.

When I had Roxy's ears cropped she was nearly 13 weeks old. I had a vacation planned and I needed to be here for her so after talking to the vet and having an evaluation, it was decided that although it was a little later than usual, Roxy's ears would be done a few days before I returned from vacation and I was there with her for the rest of the healing and taping. I would say that if you do decide to crop, earlier is better than later. Get a reccomendation from your local boxer club for a qualified vet. If you have already decided you love those beautiful floppy ears, then leave them that way!! There are massaging techniques that can help uneven or flying ears lay correctly on the head. Whichever you decide, good luck!!

Not sure how sucessful it is, but I know you can try to train the natural ears to sit proper. I searched "natural ear* message" And several links came up

This quote is from Matt S from the thread I linked.

It can be quite normal for a pup to "fly" it's ears whilst teething & Sawyer's right about the teething age. During this time it can appear as if the ears have a mind of their own. Generally it's just a phase & things will return to "normal". Here's a link for ear massage that you might like to try....

Good luck, research cropped ears though as they can be alot of time and work to get them to stand properly.

My husband is the one who originally wanted her ears cropped. He likes the look better, he seems to think they look my distinguished that way. I think they look cuter down. Where would I find information on massaging techniques to help them even up some?

I just want to thank everyone for their advice. I have decided against cropping her cute floppy ears and just hope they eventually grow with her better. I am going to try the massage that was recommended, however, she thinks when I rub her ears it is play time. :D
