Cropped Ears Advice

Gambit

Boxer Pal
I've been the owner of multiple boxers over the years will all of them with cropped ears and no complications. My question is towards those who have also gone through the cropped ear process and can share their experience.

Our newest brindle male got his ears cropped by a experienced professional at 10 weeks old. 5 days after the procedure, the tape job "open air wire brace with tape style" started to fail and pull the ears down. Vet recommended we remove the brace to avoid damage and we bring him in next week when the stitches are removed and he can wrap the ears different than originally.

My question...do I run the risk of the ears not standing due to not having a brace for a minimum amount of time in the early stages?

It will not affect the final outcome. If you haven't already, do take the brace and tape off. It should not be any problem. I have had to take everything off a few times in the past. Just watch the pup for a bit in case the pup begins shaking his head. He could get things bleeding. Put some ointment on the edges.

Thanks for the information. Pup is doing well. Once all the scabs have healed we'll return to the vet and have him re-wrapped. I anticipate early next week.

We had no bracing for the 2 weeks that Bode had his stitches in. They were only taped together at the very top (tip to tip). No issues at all. He has beautiful long ears now. Hoping you are thru the stitches and starting the fun of posting and taping.

Best wishes. Please keep is posted on the progress.
