Crating all day

I normally come home everyday for lunch to let out Vito, but tomorrow neither myself or my wife will be able to make it home. He will be in his crate from about 8 until 4:30, so a little more than 8 hours. He has never stayed in there longer than about 6.

Do you think he will be okay? I've tried finding someone to let him out, but no one I know can do it. Since it's just this one time, I think he'll probably be fine, but wanted to see what you guys had to say first.

Also, he is 13 month old.

He should be okay. Since it is not a regular occurence, I know it is hard to think that they can hold it that long, but they can once in a while. I have felt bad before too when DH nor I could get home within 6-7 hours and Leila did fine, but I won't ever do this on a regular occurrence. I do know many people who do though. It will be fine.

It's hard for me to tell you yes or no, because I'm not there and I don't know your dog..but I think this is something you have to decide yourself and go by feel. Is there a room like the kitchen or something that can be blocked off for him, or is the crate the only option? If the crate's the only option, remember to leave him some water and toys, or something to keep him busy.

He should be fine. I would not want to have to do that often but a one time thing , well, what are you gonna do, right? Good luck and try not to worry too much-at least you know he is safe

He should be just fine! Chief is only 6 months old and has one day a week where he is crated for 8 1/2 hours. The rest of the week someone is here with him all the time. He hasn't had a crate accident in a long time! Granted... when I get home, I have to rush him right outside! But at 13 months, I think he'll be able to handle it! But of course, I can't tell for sure!

This post reminded me of a time when Daisy was just a few months old. My brother was visiting from out of state and we were taking a day trip that would last about 8 hours. Being my first puppy, I did not realize that the bag of hamburger buns on the table outside would become a victim to her in the blink of an eye. Well, she ate all 8 of the buns and I was so worried about leaving her the next day in the crate that long. Well, there was a car accident on the way back and she ended up in the crate for an extra 2 hours. I was not looking forward to what was most likely inevitable. The perfect angel was just fine! She held it the whole time and now, almost 5 years later, there doesn't seem to be any long-lasting effects! I'm sure this one time will be just fine. Our boxers are very forgiving! Remember, he will be safer in the crate than anywhere else...maybe leave a frozen kong in there when you leave.
