Hi i am about to get our boxer puppy in a few days and i just wanted some advise about crates. i was wondering if any of you still used crates after your puppy was no longer a puppy? i dont know if i should buy something he can grow into or get something smaller to use when he is still little. any suggestions ?

In our experience we bought a metal crate that we thought would be big enough when he grew up, but we were wrong. We ended up buying the biggest crate we could find. We feel better leaving him if we know he is safe in his crate and can't get into anything that could hurt him. It is also a big help in house training. Oscar is 14 months old and we still don't trust him alone in the house. He's an 80 lb baby that could get into a lot of trouble if he were allowed to.

We got a 42" wire crate so we could have it for when my girl grew up. She is now 2yrs 3months and if we leave the house for longer than 5hrs she is crated but other than that she is not. She is so used to someone being home that it seems she can't hold it longer than 5hrs. If she is in the crate she is laying down chewing a bone etc. and not as active so she does fine in the crate. We also have a male rescue who is a BIG BOY 80lbs and he has the same size crate and fits fine. Good Luck with your baby.
thank you so much for your suggestions. we ended up getting a pretty big one and sectioned it off right now. i will post a pic soon. he is soooo cute. we have only had him 3 days but housetraining is not as bad as i thought. i am a stay at home mom/college student so i am home a lot which helps.
