Hello everyone, I have a question on crate training. I have a Flashy Fawn male that is 9 weeks old. I've had him for 5 days now and started crate training him on sunday. He does pretty well in the crate, but when he wakes up he goes cries and howls like crazy. To calm him down I sleep next to the crate on the floor and he fall right back to sleep in the crate. Am I giving in to him by doing this? Also has anyone herd of putting a huge carrott in the crate at night so they can chew on if they wake up?

Thanks All

How about putting the crate near your bed so he knows you are there and you can at least get some sleep :) They will fuss in the crate in the beginning but that should stop-he is just a baby right now :) Never heard of the carrot but I used a warm water bottle wrapped in a soft towel. Some have luck with a ticking alarm clok (mimics a heartbeat) Good luck-you sound like a great puppy Mom :)

I'm a puppy Dad lol, the problem is I have the puppy at college he staying at one of my teammates house thats down the road from me. He'll only be there untill May 22nd when I graduate I have been sleeping on the couch there at nite. Should I just move the crate by the couch then?

Thanks

You are lucky your little baby likes the crate at all! But I totally understand - Dakota who is now 13 weeks loves her crate to sleep in at night as well, but when she is up she despises it. I was actually going to post how to deal with it and get her used to it (besides the normal put her in for 5 minutes a day and then a little longer each day.) I tried that and she still howls her head off.

We have our crate in the bedroom and I think it makes a big difference.
