crate training schedule for working couple - critique me, please!

New Puppy

When I have a new puppy in the house, I give them more area when I am at work. I let them have my entire kitchen. They have an open crate with comfy blankets for sleeping, a few toys, water and an entire empty area for "not holding it". They get comfortable using the open crate as a sleeping area and have less stress since they have a nice room to play in. I use a child gate to keep them in the kitchen.

I think it all really depends on the dog. When I was training my first dog ( a boxer mix) he literally would poop every half hour like clockwork. And to this day, two years later, he goes every time I take him outside no matter how often I take him. It's like he has a reservoir he saves up for special occasions or something. My new pup, though, doesn't go nearly as often. He usually pees every time I take him out, but he only poops twice a day or so.
