Crate Issues

As most of you know Gizmo is only 5 weeks old. Here is my small problem. How do I get him use to his crate. He whines forever long in there. He is only in there at bed time, or if both DH and I have to leave the house. So most of of the time he is out. Because he is only 5 weeks old I do not want him out at night, because he can hurt himself, and pee on my floor, which he already has. He has only been here since Tuesday and he is already very attached to me. Yesterday I worked a very long shift, and when I came home he followed me everywhere. So my question is, is this just because He is so young??? What can I do to make him feel better?

I just brougt home my new boy Otto on Saturday. He is a couple of days under 8 weeks. I had luck putting Otto in his kennel and sitting down by it so he knew I was there. A couple of minutes later he was sleeping. At night I have the kennel next to me in bed. When he starts crying I just tap on the kennel and tell him quiet. Or I put my finger in the kennel so he could touch me. The second night went alot better than the first.
