Bojer is almost eight months and he will go in his crate freely at night and when we leav he will go in and we give him a nice morrow bone with chesse, he LOVES it, but right when the door closes and we are outside the apartment he becomes a wild crazy dog and trys everything possible to break out (which he has many times) we are now putting a lock on the crate because he is bending the handle to close the crate door. we tried leaving him out during the days but he will pee in the hosue and destroy things. We are worried that the constant clawing and biting the crate will hurt his teeth and nails. Any advice?

Although My Molly is only 3 1/2 months old she hates her crate and she managed to pull out or break off all of her front teeth. I wish I had some great advice for you too but I would like to know the answer of your question as well.
Molly has managed to get out a few times and I have seen how she does it but she does not chew anything and I have only found one puddle right by the back door. But she drools something awful.

It sounds like he has a case of separation anxiety... thus the frantic behavior in and out of the crate when you are not there. When you get home, how is he? Covered in drool or is he calm?
What do you do when you leave? You don't want to make a big fuss when you leave or come back. When I leave I tell my pups "in your crate" and once they are in the crate, I close the door and leave. No "Bye sweetie, momma's leaving!" or anything like that.
Try and put him in the crate during the day when you are home. Most likely he's fine at night because he's sleeping. Put him in and close the door, but stay in sight. Keep him in for just a couple minutes, and then let him out. Gradually increase the time. Then leave the room for a couple minutes. Then leave the house. ETC. It's very important not to let him out when he's crying. Wait until he's calm.
How long have you had him? How long has he been going into the crate? Is this just a recent occurrence or has this been going on for awhile?

I feel your pain
I have 2 boxers, the older of the two fought his crate tooth and nail and just plain would not go in, we literally had to drag him in, not a good thing. I finally gave up and gave him run of the house, he ate a huge whole in my living room carpet. Then along came Jazz, at the time, an 8 week old female. She loves her crate and goes there willing, used same routine on her as him in training. I think its just different personalities. Now the older has run of half the house, I do not leave him near the carpet, I used a baby gate, the younger, Jazz is still in the crate as I don't trust the two of them together when I am not here to supervise. They play together well, til one of them get too rough, then look out! Good luck.

sounds like separation anxiety to me. i've been through it, been through 6 months of clomicalm, and now all is well. if that's what it is, it needs to be addressed now...the longer it's there, the longer it takes to get rid of...do a search on separation anxiety, there's lot of helpful information, or pm me and i could tell you about our story (or search my name and look at my old posts). good luck! i feel your pain, that period of time in our lives was probably the most stressful time of my life! and i've been through childbirth, college, grad school...and yes, a puppy got me the worst!!!

What does clomicalm do to the dog. Did it change your dogs attitude. Does the drug cost a lot, I just feel bad druging my dog but we are running out of options. All the advice and things to do are ideal for someone who doesn't have to work or lives in a big house. My fiance and I both work and live in Chicago in a condo. We are thinking about doggie day car or possibly getting another dog, but all alternatives are expensive. Even if is out of the crate when we are not there besides having an accident he is young and curious and often gets into things he shouldn't I just don't think it is safe yet. Do you think the drug id a good option?
