I am soon bringing home an 8 week old female to live with my wife, me and our 4 year old male boxer (Apollo). He is very well behaved and has been in a crate since he was a puppy. He's probably ok to not be in the crate, but he likes it so much. Anyways, i was wondering if there were any thoughts about having both of there crates in the same room. Do you think that Apollo's good behavior in his crate will be a good model for the new puppy, or will it be just a barking match waiting to happen?

I'd definitely have them in the same room, and preferably side by side. IMO it greatly increases the chances of the pup settling in his crate - since he's not in solitary confinement.

I agree. My boy has had two "sisters" and both of them were calm and quiet in thier crates and I am sure it is because they could see him and knew they were not alone. I highly recommend it. Congrats on your new baby :)

I crate both of mine in the same room as well. I set them about 2 feet apart so they can see each other in the front. When I come home and let them out, it doesnt matter which one gets out first, they will wait for the other to be freed before they both take off together.

I think that putting them side by side would be better for the new little one. I had a 6 month old female and then decided I wanted another so I brought home a 8 week old boy and when they were in their crates together, side by side, they were very content.

Both of my younger dogs were crated as pups in the same room as the older one/ones. It's better that way and not lonely for them :)

I crate both of my dogs in the same room. Bodhi doesn't mind staying in his cage as long as Max is in the same room as him.
