Could Nutro be causing these problems?

We recently switched Mugsy's food to Nutro Lamb Meal and Rice. We are still mixing with his old food (to slowly get him used to it). On Sunday morning (the 2nd week on new food), I noticed that Mugsy's eyes are getting very goopy. He would always have goopy eyes in the morning, but throughout the day he would have nothing. I am finding that now he has goopy eyes throughout the day. I don't think it is an infectiion since he's acting fine, and doesn't rub his eyes on anything (to make me think that they would itch him). The goopiness isn't pussy looking either. I have read previous posts about Nutro having this affect on boxers. Could this be Mugsy's problem? If yoiu have experienced this problem from feeding Nutro, could you please let me know if you experienced a similar situation. I am seriously considering changing Mugsy's food to Wellness if this is the case. ANy info would be helpful and appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Not sure about the goopy eye thing, but Brandy & Baylee get goopy eyes throughout the day. Could he have an infection? Possibly, what color is the goo? I have heard of this happening when dogs go from kibble to BARF. What other kind of food did you have him on?

Lots of eye goop after a food change is supposed to be related to riding the body of toxins.
You should do a search here on boxerworld for goopy eyes. That should pull up a few threads.
It could however be unrelated to food (such as infection or allergies).

Good luck.
I'm sure everything is fine.

P.S. Wellness is a really good kibble. Harley has been on it and did real well. They also have lots of variety in different protein sources (lamb, fish, chicken, etc).

I'm with Sashamom.... I had my 2 boxers on Nutro (Natural Choice)... and they had goopy eyes. I never really thought anything about it...and I didn't think it had to do with the food...just thought it was a boxer thing. Then I switched them to Canidae... my older female has very little if any eye goop, and my 8 month old male (who has very droopy drainy eyes) has little eye goop, and when he does, it's more clear then yellow.

We have done tons of research on food, mainly through personal testimonials from this site, and have recently decided to switch to Nutro. We have little access to good quality puppy food which has us a little agitated. We live in a smaller city (pop of approx 18,000) with one pet store that sells one brand of food that is utter crap... Nutrience I believe is the name of it. And the bigger chains such as Walmart that as you all know sells the most amount of crap around. The next larger city is 2 1/2 hours away and the best food available there is Nutro. We are going to give it a try. Chicken Soup is available in Edmonton Alberta (6 hrs away)and we will be picking up a huge supply in May when we go to visit Family. What we have concluded is that the puppy foods that contain beet pulp is the main culprit of the eye goop and consequently, staining under the eyes. Chicken soup does not contain beet pulp in their puppy food either does canidae. I would recommend either of those. We will be switching as soon as we have access to purchase either brand!
