Could it be Kennel Cough?

I've read a bunch of posts on kennel cough, which only confused me more.

My boy has been coughing or should I say hacking for the past two weeks, but only in the morning when he wakes up.

At first I thought it was the heat - we have forced air heat which really dries the air. So I lowered the thermostat at night.

Then I thought it was his new bed, so I washed it. That didn't help, so I took it away from him for one night.

He still would wake up coughing. He received his Bordetella shot in November 2001.

Before I go running to the vet, I wanted to get some opinons from the group.

P.S. He has been acting very normal otherwise. And he was neutered this past Friday.

I do not know much about it...but my Dayla had the cough when I first brought her home. She was much the same...hacking in the mornings or in the middle of the night. I would get up and love on her to make her feel comfy...but she was always the little spit fire and played like nothing bothered her.

She had it for almost a month before it went away...Id get him to the vet for a checkup just in case...

Please take your pup to the vet. My girl was coughing and had some problems. If it were kennel cough, most of the time they cough all times. Better to check & if there is a problem catch it early. Jill , Koko & Rudi

My little Kobe (4mo) just developed a cough similar to the one that you described, only in the morning when he wakes up. I took him to the vet and he was diagnosed with Allergies. Here in Las Vegas there is very dry weather and lots of dust where we live because of all the new construction. The Doctor also stated that with the increase in temperature things are starting to pollinate. This is why he is coughing. So says the Doctor. He has had Kennel Cough before and it is not the same type of cough, his is more congested instead of hacking, however he does hack a few times. The Doc told me to give him one Benadryl one hour before he goes to bed. So far it is helping. Talk with your vet about possible allergies, depending on where you live that may be what is going on. To be on the safe side, I would make a trip to the vet! Good Luck.
