Completely Boxer Crazy
We have gone to the same vet for 12years approx, Roxie was almost two when we started going there, and when she had to be put to sleep she was a month short of 14years, so anyway, wev'e been going there along time. Roxie was put to sleep Sept 8th, her body wasn't picked up until Sept 14th, I had called the vets office on the 15th and they said she had just been picked up, they only have once a week pick up, ok, it made us very sad but, we didn't know, and what could you do? nothing. Just to mention also, when I callled the girl wasn't all that nice, I know there busy but that was my Baby. A whole week goes by, now it's Sept 25th, my Husband and I are thinking, did they loose her? do they not know who she belongs to? did they mix up her ashes with another's animal? All theese things running through our heads, it's almost been three weeks. Finally the 25th , I call the pet cemetary, they are very nice and understanding and this woman tells me she'll call me right back. Well, she calls me ten mins later and tells me Roxies ashes were returned to the animal hospital on Sept 19th :o I tell her thank you very much through my tears, and I call the vets office. I tell them who I am, and that Im not happy at all, why hasn't anyone called to tell me she's back, (I know she's gone, but she's our Baby and we want her remains home with us). Hold on a second , he says. "Oh, Kim, Helen was on vacation and didnt' get back until the 19th so she's been playing catch up with her calls". ??????? Are you kidding me, thats 6 days, he says no , it's four, I said, look it!! I want my dog. I go get her , theres no Im sorry, no nothing. Im sorry this is long, I am very upset, please be patient with me. This has been our Baby for almost fourteen years and they don't have the decency to even call or be nice about it. Weve been customers forever!!! Am I wrong?? Honestly I feel like my baby was disrespected, Im so hurt, it's like she didn't matter, we got no card from the vet, who we love and respect so much, I just can't believe it. What should I do, write a note, call and talk to him personally? what would you guys do?
Sorry :(

I left my life long vet after a similar situation. I know I was HYPER sensitive when I lost Jasmine. Still if anyone knew how important she was to me they should have. They were her vet all 13 years.
I TOTALLY understand your being upset. Find a new place. I could not continue to trust someone once I decided compassion was missing from their misson statement.

3 years later and I can see how raw my feelings were but I still am glad I left.

P.S. My deepest symathy regarding Roxie's passing.

I'm so sorry for your loss...

When you feel better and maybe aren't quite as upset, you should let the vet know... if I was the owner of a business, I'd want to know. Why no condolences, I don't understand. I've had to put a cat down and I rec'd a condolence card, b-day n Christmas, too. It WAS a small vet in a small town, though. Maybe Helen is behind on condolence notes too *shrug*?

Thoughts and prayers for you and yours through these difficult times...

It wouldn't let me edit my post...

If you are not satisfied with the vet's response, then you should definitely find a new vet!!

I am in shock that you and Roxie were treated with such disrespect. Like others said when our German Sheperd Nikita passed last year we received a condolence card signed by the vet himself and also got one this year on her birthday. I would call and make an appointment to go in and see him personally so you didn't risk sending him a letter that someone else opens, reads and discards. He needs to know that this wasn't acceptable. If you still feel like you can't trust him then I would find a new vet.

Godspeed Roxie angelicon

I would definately let the vet know what went on. I think you and Roxie both should have been treated with more respect. If Helen is that far behind, maybe they should hire another person to help her (or replace her.)

I know my old vets office (changed for different reasons) treated us with nothing but respect when Tossie left us. I can't remember how long it took for her remains to be ready but I picked them up around 3-4 weeks after she went to The Bridge. I got an urn made and the vet's office said we could pick up her remains in a coffee can, there was no way that was happening, I just couldn't do it. I told them that and they told me I could leave her remains there as long as I needed, no rush. When I did get the urn, they put her remains in it and glued the top and even put some of her ashes in my necklace. They were nothing but nice about the whole process. I know all of this doesn't help you but I wish you and Roxie were treated with the respect that we received.

Call the vet and tell him what happened. If you don't feel comfortable going back there, change vets. I know it isn't that simple but you know in your heart what needs to be done. Sorry you had to go through all of this and most of all, sorry about losing Roxie angelicon

I'm very sorry to hear about Roxi. I used to work for a vet and we never spoke to anyone that way. Especially after they lost a loved one. We also delt with cremation and tried to be as compasionate as possible. Along with sending a sympathy card. Also there is usually more than one person orking the front desk. I find it ridiculous that someone being on vacation was an excuse. If other employees can't handle those types of situations, maybe they shouln't be working there. Also I do think you should speak with the vet and let him know where your comming from. He should know how his employees are treating valued long time customers. He probably dosen't know and needs to. I'm very sorry you had to deal with such crap at this time! Hope this help some.

I too am very sorry about Roxi. :( I am sorry for all of your pain and anguish, though understandable.

However the vet staff was cold, discourteous, unprofessional, lazy, half a**ed about your concerns, and apparently all need a new field to work in. :( You are not being over sensitive. If I were you I would by all means contact the vet personally. I am sure the lenght of time and amount of money also upset you and you are right, but it does not matter how long you have been going there. Every pet and owner deserves much more care and respect than you were treated to. Hopefully the vet will be surprised at the situation and do something about it.

I'm so sorry. :(

If you really like your vet you should let him know. Maybe they don't know what goes on out at the front desk. I'm sorry for what you had to go thru.

I would speak to your vet, he is probably totally unaware what has being going on. I am sure that he would appreciate it.
This is no way to treat a client whether you have been using them for a long time or not.
