Coughing??

Our six month old puppy Sadie was diagnosed on Tuesday with an intestinal bacterial infection. She's been on antibiotics since then and yesterday we noticed she was coughing or gagging but it only seems to be when she gets really excited. Otherwise, her behavior and activity level haven't changed. Any ideas?

it could be a reverse sneeze, my dog started doing that out of the blue. Next time she does it try to see if it's going in or out.

She could have picked up kennel cough. Just keep an eye on her, if it seems to get a lot worse you may have to take her back to the vet. It's probably nothing to worry about though

Our Angelo is also coughing, at first I thought there was something stuck in his nose because he nose was also running. I took him to the vet and he is on antibiotics now and the vet says kennel cough. His coughing is much worse with activity and excitement, and it seems the evening. I will be taking him back to the vet tomorrow.

Sadie's symptoms sound just like Angelos although I guess I thought it WASN'T kennel cough since she's already on antibiotics for the intestinal infection.

I really think she just likes going to the vet

I think Angelo likes going to the vet also as his cough is much, much worse. My vet was not happy and gave Angelo 2 shots and he will start prednisone this afternoon. The vet said we should have dramatic improvement by tomorrow afternoon. If Angelo does not improve he wants us to take him to a specialist. Anyways , lets hope for improvement and I hope that Saidie is doing better.

We went to the vet this afternoon and boy she was so excited she piddled everywhere. I have no idea why but both of my dogs LOVE the vet. So he checked her pretty good and feels that it could be an allergy to the our christmas tree (she started the cough right around the time we got the tree), her lungs and everything were clear. She doesnt seem to be getting worse, we just have to keep an eye on her and take her in again the end of the week.
