Hi all, sorta new to the forum. I was a member a few years back and lost my other username so I signed up to read up on cruciate ligament tears.
Sadie went to the vet one week ago, Doc suspected she may have torn her cruciate ligament in her knee so we left her there overnight so he can sedate her and x-ray her knee. She does have a tear, since finding out I have her in a play yard (inside my family room) where she can rest it and also to protect her from causing more damage to her other knee. We take her outside for short potty breaks on a leash and small walks to keep her from getting too depressed. I am not going with the TPLO surgery, partly because of cost and also I feel it's too invasive and I don't like the risk to her other leg becoming injured during her recovery time. We are having a brace specially made to fit her and she will wear it for 8-9 months, if that does not work then I will go the the traditional surgery and she can wear the brace then too. She is taking Cosequin, Previcox, and Tramadol.
My problem is that last night she sneezed a lot, and today Sunday, she woke up coughing and trying to clear her throat. I have never had to deal with kennel cough and am wondering if she may have caught something when she stayed overnight at the Vets office. Of course the Vet is not open on Sunday's so I am also wondering if kennel cough is needing emergency care. We do have a pet hospital nearby that I could take her to. Or is this like a typical cold that I can wait and call her Vet first thing Monday Morning.
If any one has any advise they'd like to share I would appreciate it. Thanks, Cindy... mom to Sadie Mae
