Chloe (4 mo.) was spayed last Friday. The office told me that if she started coughing on the fourth day to call them. This Friday (1 week later)she started coughing like she had something in her throat. I checked her throat as far as I could. She is eating and drinking normally. I called the vet on Friday and the nurse said that as long as she was eating and drinking that Chloe should be fine.So today she is still coughing but now it sounds like more of a hack, like pnuemonia maybe? She vomited once yesterday. When she coughs
white foam spews out of her mouth.Has anyone else had this happen after surgery? She has an appointment on Monday to get her stitches
out and I will have the vet check her then. I am really nervous that something is seriously wrong.

Sounds like she may have been exposed to "Kennel Cough". Kennel Cough is an airborne virus similar to the common human cold. Seven days is a normal time period from exposure. If you have a rectal thermometer, you can take her temperature. Dogs normal temp is 100.5 to 102.5. Eating, drinking and a normal temp would put her in the no big worry catorgory. Kennel Cough is a frustrating problem, but is a virus, so antibiotics don't help. Sometimes children's cough syrup will give you both some relief. :D

Thank you so much for getting back to me so quickly. I did a search for kennel cough and Chloe seems to have all of the symptoms. Chloe has received all of her shots, doesn't that take care of kennel cough?
She just got her last set a week before the surgery so maybe it isn't effective yet.I feel better now knowing it is not something very serious.
I had to call my sister because we had a "puppy" play date today.
Again thank you for your prompt and very helpful reply. Take care.
