Yep, Mya has a corneal ulcer. We have been to 3 vets and she has been in an E-collar for almost a week and it doesn't seen to be getting better. I read somewhere that a Vitamen E solution works well, but it did not specify as to what brand. Does anyone have any suggestions????

Nothing should be put into the eye that isn't specifically an ophthalmic solution. Mya's ulcer should be examined by a veterinarian who is familiar with indolent ulcers or "Boxer ulcers." If a veterinary ophthalmologist is available to you, I'd recommend consulting them. An indolent ulcer must frequently be treated more agressively than a regular corneal ulcer, so it's important that Mya get regular rechecks, preferably by the same veterinarian, so they have a comparison to know whether or not it's getting better.

I agree, don't put anything into the eye (especially one with an injury) that isn't prescribed by a vet.
We are just barely starting to come out of treatment for "indolent ulcers". For two weeks Mack wore an e-collar (ugh!) and we put in an ointment 3 times a day (it was NOT easy and peanut butter rewards are the only thing that got us through it).
After two weeks of that, things were no better (and Mack was feeling bad, squinting and grouchy) he had a corneal de-bridement (grid keratotomy) on both eyes under anesthetic.
His eyes looked "awful" - like dead fish eyes covered with foggy haziness. It has been almost 8 weeks and his eyes are just starting to look normal and he feels normal - wanting to play with our other dog.
Ugh! It hasn't been fun and I sure hope he's not going to have more of these.

How much did the Corneal De-bridement cost?? I think that may be what has to be done. I have only put what the prescribed drops in her eye

Matt B....the corneal keratotomy was "$200 plus". That didn't include the intital visit and prescription......the follow-up visit 2 weeks later (which we wanted because we were leaving the state for 2 months) and one more visit with a local vet in the state we're visiting. I suppose it's been about $300.
We have VPI (pet insurance which is picking up some of the costs).
If I had it all to do over again........I would have gone to a veterinary opthalmologist and taken care of it straight away.

Hey Matt

Good advice from the others in this thread. Get to the vet for sure. My 7 yr old Cane had one of these before xmas that required surgery because we didn't catch it right away. They scraped it off and then used his 3rd eye lid to cover the eye while healing. They basically sewed his eyelid or membrane to the top of his eyebrow, it looked so bad my wife fainted in the waiting room and hit the floor like a scak of hammers.

Just this Saturday i noticed Cane was squinting his right eye, i took him to the vet right away, and it was bad news. Another ulcer, this time in the other eye. I put the e-collar on him right away, not taking any chances and don't want to have surgery again. So I have to give him eye meds EVERY 3 hours. So I am back to setting my alarm clock for 2:00 am, and 5:00am. I went through 3 weeks of this at xmas and can't beleive i am going through it again, but what can you do.

Much love to Mya! You can get through this but it will require a lot of patience and love. But you are a boxer owner so you should have lots of both.
