constant peeing

Hello everyone, this is my first time raising a pup and although I think I'm doing a good job with the housebreaking, etc., I am concerned about the constant peeing. It seems like every sip she takes she pees, she is 13 weeks and we visited a trainer and was told not to leave the water out all the time because since she is little she cannot hold to much water, but them we went to the vet on Saturday for one of her shots and was told to always leave the water out and that the peeing all the time was normal, seems a little to frequent, any help with this would be appreciated, I feel like I'm cleaning up urine alllllll day everyday....

They do pee alot, but leave water available, except near bedtime. However, crating your pup will produce faster house training results. You can get a water bottle that hangs upside down, and attatches to the crate. You typically find these attached to hampster cages, etc. Shortening the cage size to let the pup stand up and turn around. Don't leave them in their long. A pup that young can only hold it for an hour 1/2. You have to watch her like a hawk when she's out. You have to be quick if you see any signs of pre-peeing. If she starts, gently tell her no, as you swoop her of the ground. Take her outside and let her finish her buisness. Once she does, congratulate her. The crate is the key. It will teach her to hold it, within reason. Don't put any bedding in their just yet. They just soil it and scrunch it into a corner.

Now I really have no experience in this, but the books I have been reading. Our first puppy is only 10 1/2 weeks old. He has and will hold it for up to 2-1/2 hours awake and up to 5 hrs asleep. If you take him out before he has to go, he whines and stares at the door. We make him relax and bring him back in. When we got him, he would "hang" out outside for like 15 mins. Between us learning his signs, and him learning going quickly gets him back in the warm house, things have been going great. "knock on wood", he has had one accident since thanksgiving morn. He is in the process of crate training, and only had an accident in there the first night we got him. I am not sure if he is an exception, but because he isn't allowed to do it in the house, it's not as easy for him. So I would have to think in his developing brain, that he is learning to hold it, so he has to go out less. On days like we had today, he hates the windy chill, so less times is better. A few other days where it was calm and cold, he loved playing outside for a short time, but still prefered to do his business and come back inside. I guess I feel like with the paper always available, she knows that she has the ability to go a hundred times if she would like. So therefore I would have to guess she is resisting "holding" it because she doesn't have too. Although funny to think about, if you could "go" anytime you wanted, wouldn't you. Standing in the grocery line, and you have to go, you would. Waiting for the bus or train, and you have to go, wouldn't you? But we can't, we have to hold it. She may have to learn that the paper isn't there and she has to wait 30 mins and go outside. IMO besides limiting water before bed, restricting water all the time could be considered cruel. She is a puppy, and needs to learn a lot, but one thing is not to have to seek water everywhere because her bowl isn't there. The one thing that has been told to me or I have read a ton, is persistence. It may take 50 or 100 times for them to figure it out, but think how much better it will make them as an adult dog. Thanks for the advice guys but still a little confused, she is crated the whole day I'm at work, for about 6-7 hours, are you saying I should crate her some more when I get home? Also unlike when she goes #2, when she starts to pee it's almost impossible to stop her because it comes out so fast. Naturally this is very frustrating and I know all the work will pay off but I just feel like I'm cleaning up every 10 mins, don't really have the time to walk her every half hour, but from what I'm reading it's pretty normal, again, this is my first pup so this is all new to me and this site has helped out alot, any other adive would be helpful also.

Aside from any physical problems...

When you catch her are you taking her outside to finish? Perhaps she isn't completely emptying her bladder. We took our puppy out every 60-90 minutes when awake, after eating, right after waking up or coming out of the crate. We also noticed that when he was playing and he suddenly stopped and started walking around that he had to pee. So any sudden change in activity is a clue.
Keep up with the assurance that outside is the place to go. She needs to learn to hold it until she's outside.

So it is normal for the puppies to pee ALL the time? Manny is getting better about going to the door when he has to go, and every time he goes out we make him tap on the door so we know he's there... but then he comes right back in and drinks more water and then forgets and pees on the floor!! It's really frusterating, but it sounds like there is hope I've also noticed that during transition times he tends to have more accidents, so I try to remember to take him out in between playing and eating and ESPECIALLY after napping!!

We've been there

Maya used to do the same thing. I never thought that it would end. Someone once told me that once you go at least a month without an accident in the house, you had mastered Potty training. We would get so close each time, and then boom...pee again. There were times that when we were home we would take her out every 30-60 mins. We always gave her access to water since this is what we also heard from our vet. It seems like it will never end, but I promise it will. I thought my girl would never get it and she was close to a year old before she did.

There were times when we even thought something was wrong with her b/c she was going so much. The vet even agreed, so he tested her for urinary tract infections and everything. There was nothing wrong with her, she just drank a LOT of water.

There is hope out there...I promise!! Just stick with it, it does get easier.
