Here is what I did,
I noticed that recently Sadie was starting to bark (probably to get attention) so I thought I would teach her the speak command and the hush command so I would be in control of her barking a little more. Well she learned the two great and all but it backfired on me, she would just go around barking (even more) so I would tell her to hush and then give her a treat, now who is in control of who, smart doggie hunh. Well now I am at the point where I put her in a sit then a down for a few seconds then I praise and reward her for doing that instead of hushing. Hopefully this will work....

Another way to stop the barking is...

What works for me (if she is in distance) I quickly putting my thumb in her mouth as she barks. I grab her bottom jaw (gently, just firm enough to hold "IMPORTANT"!!! Do not turn it rough)! and say firmly and softly "No Barking" or what word you use for "No". I do not let go until she has stopped. If she is out of distance I point at her and say "No Barking" Always same command. If she continues after I point I start to walk over. With in two three steps she has stopped. Also important not to say the command once. Saying over and over will only tell the dog that you have to say it many times for it to apply. That has worked for my last two dogs and is working for my little "Star" 8 wks. What a sweet heart. I get headaches, ignoring (although effective) I unable handle. Hopes this helps
