I don't know if Utah just likes to hear himself talk or what, but when he is outside he barks at nothing.I go out and look and there is nothing there. The neighbors are complaining.I just don't know what to do.I let him out and stand at the door until he does his duty and then I let him right back in.I feel like he is trying to tell the whole world"This is my house and my mommy so know that I am here".If he is out for 30 minutes he barks for 30 minutes.
Any suggestions?
thanks,

Could be boredom. What is he doing outside alone for 30 minutes? Does he have toys or do you go out and play games of fetch with him. He could be trying to get your attention to come out and play.

When Cami barks outside it's because she sees something/someone or hears other dogs in the neighborhood barking. She never barks out of boredom, I don't give her a chance to get bored or leave her unsupervised for longer than 5 minutes outside. Too many things could happen.

Perhaps staying outside with him for awhile and reward him for not barking will help to curb it.

utah has all kinds of toys and a sand box and a huge fenced in yard.I used the thirty minutes to try to express the extent of his barking.Unfortunately I can't be outside with him every time he goes out.He playes wonderfully by himself when he has to.He also goes to the park everyday and we take him running every morning. He loves to be outside. He would stay out all day if I would leave him to,but I won't.I didn't in any way mean to leave anyone with the impression that i abuse Utah.Compared to most Dogs,Utah has a great life.We treat him like our child.I'm sorry that I gave the wrong impression. There is obviousely another problem other then him spending time alone.I don't believe this is his problem.I am outside with him most of the time and he will stop and look around constantly,I have to regain his attention.

I didn't mean to imply that I thought you were abusing Utah. My girl would rather stay outside as well, she is quite independent. I just know from experience if I leave her out unattended she will find something to get into that I never thought she would be interested in.

She has never been one to bark just for the sake of barking. Although on a few occasions when she gets going I wonder if it drives the neighbors nuts. I am always there to try and distract her from whatever she is barking at.

I hope that others will give you suggestions on curbing the barking.

Good-Luck

are you saying from the moment he goes out he barks until hecomes back in? obviously he isn't barking when you take him to the park or when you are out running together. I have two things I am thinking.
One is that he is barking because he hears something you don't hear. My brothers dog (not a boxer, but a malamute) Will let out unrelenting noise when he is out side. It is either because he sees someone and is "inviting" them over to play, or he hears a train - way, way out in the distance. Golly is he ever annoying.

My other idea is that one day he started barking at soemthing legitimate and one of the neighbors (how close are they?) either yelled at him or squirted him and he is trying to warn you that the bad person still lives there. Or maybe he hears someones TV on and people are arguing on TV.

When my girl is out and she starts barking, I always go see what the matter is. Usually it is a neighbor walking down the street or a utility person, and I will pet her and tell her - okay I see them thanks. But if I go inside and she starts barking at the same thing - then I go out and scold her. I don't want her to bark everytime she sees the neighbor. I can't think of a time that she has barked while she was inside the house though. Guess she figures we have it covered in here, but when she is outside alone, she is in charge of guarding the yard and alerting us to every little thing.

I don't know if that helped or not. hope so

my dog is a barker, even though im outside with her she will bark for no reason-at least i think its no reason, i dont see anything out there. we can be playing ball or chase and she will just stop in her tracks and bark look at me, wag her stub and bark some more. the more i tell her to stop the more she barks. in the house there are times she will just stand at the top of steps and bark again for no reason. forget tv if she hears a car start or horn, door bell or yelling it will start her off and we have to calm her down. i guess she has alot to say.

well thank you everyone for your input.I guess I just have to accept the fact that he is a barker and just do what I can to stop him from doing so when it isn't useful.LOL.Keep correcting him is all I can do,eh?

ghosts?

Siren barks - but it's usually at something. There are squirrels and rabbits on the other side of the fence that drive her CRAZY. I'm also convinced there is a dog in his/her yard at some angle that I can't see - but Siren can. She barks at things she can hear but can't see. My min pin - he barks at the wind. She gets going when he gets going. Siren also barks at my other dog (incessantly) when he goes in the doghouse because he doesn't want to play, or when he has something she wants. He likes to hide from her under the deck too - and that will get her barking like crazy as well. Otherwise, she's not very vocal at all. She very rarely barks in the house, even when people come to the door or come in the house.
