Considering switching from Iams to Canidae

I used to free-feed, but, haven't done that for a very long time (over a year). I set their food bowls down and when they were enjoying their food, they ate it quickly and I picked up the bowls. Now...I have been leaving the bowls out longer and longer, as they aren't eating the food like they had been. Probably a mistake. I'll try setting them a limit (like the 20 mins. suggested). Just wanted to state that I don't free feed! Cindy W.

I made the switch from iams to CS a couple of months ago and both my dog love it. I have also noticed that they are less gassy.

Well, no matter how good the quality, not every food agrees with every single dog. If your three are so gassy on Canidae, it's certainly worthwhile trying them on a different high quality brand. You may well find that they like something like chicken soup or wellness a lot better too.

I wouldn't personally put them back on the Iams - it really doesn't have great ingredients. LOL - the top 2 and corn meal and chicken by-products. Beet pulp is also high on the list, and those ingredients are common allergens. Since allergies were the main reason for switching to a high quality food in the first place, I really wouldn't head back there gas or not How are Bear's allergies doing anyway? Any improvement at all?

In terms of Bears allergies...I believe there has been some improvement, but, nothing major. He seems to be scratching less, and he doesn't seem to be trying to rub his ears all the time. It is hard to tell. He still has the red "hot spots" on his tummy, although he has been leaving them alone for the most part. So, I think he is getting some relief, we're just not quite all the way there yet.

I won't be switching back to Iams. If this Canidae doesn't work out, I'm going to get a bag of CS for Dog's and try that instead. I just don't want to be going through brand after brand of food...their tummies are sensitive enough the way it is without me adding to their discomfort.

Well, it's good that his allergies appear to be improving anyway - it will probably take a while for the hot spots to disappear completely, but if he's scratching less that is already a good sign. Hopefully he will continue to improve. LOL - I hope you find a solution to the gas too A spoonful or so of plain natural yoghurt with their food can help a lot in that department.
