Just saw your post a few minutes ago, and you have our thoughts and prayers. Glad to hear you are getting some positive feedback. I hope you can get as much time as possible with your baby, and make every day special. Hopefully several years from now, with Belle still at your side, you'll be telling this story, and how this scare made her the most spoiled dog ever.

Great news for Belle and for you! Just the words congestive heart failure sound so menacing, and while it is worrisome, it can be managed witha proper diagnosis and good medical care. My Lewis was a great example. Hopefully, so is Belle.

I thought I would post an update as to how things are going with Belle. We have been very pleased with her progress. We had a minor setback, where we tried to decrease the amount of Lasix she was on, but had to increase it back to her original dosage because she developed some breathing problems. We have now decreased the dose back down again, and are not seeing any of the breathing problems like we did before. We will be further decreasing the Lasix over the next few weeks, with the hope that we can eliminate this medication altogether. We also had to re-adjust the amount of Digoxin she receives, and will be doing more bloodwork in a couple of weeks to make sure everything is good with regard to that medication. We had a consultation with a holistic vet, and are starting to incorporate some of her suggestions into our routine. The main thing we are doing is eliminating all grains from her diet. She can’t even have a biscuit. So far that hasn’t been a problem because Belle loves the freeze-dried liver we give to her instead. We also began some cardiac supplements, fish oil and a probiotic as suggested by the holistic vet, in addition to the L-carnitine, taurine and CoQ10 recommended by the cardiologist. It is such a relief to have our puppy back, and looking at her, it is difficult to believe that she went through such a horrible time. When the holistic vet read Belle’s records from when she was in the hospital, she started to cry because she couldn’t believe what bad shape she was in, and how far she has come from there. We were told that Belle would limit her activity and exercise on her own, but we have not noticed her slowing herself down in the least. She continues to play enthusiastically with her big boxer sister Lacy, and much to my dismay, will run wildly around the yard (by herself, because I don’t thing *my* heart could handle it to watch her and Lacy run around together). On top of all of that, she is always eager to give us a boxer wiggle and a big old boxer kiss. All things considered, I am thrilled with Belle’s progress, and I am finally starting to believe that we can have some semblance of a normal life with our puppy.

It's really great to hear Belle is doing better! Hopefully her condition will remain stable for a very long time. I think it's great you consulted a holistic vet.

Please continue to keep us posted on Belle's "progress." BTW, she's is just so adorable! I must confess, though, that I really like the pic of both of your dogs in the puppy bed. Too funny to see Lacy 3/4 on the bed and 1/4 hanging off!

How wonderful!

Glad to hear Belle is doing better! Isn't it amazing how we take for granted when we think all is well with out babies? My Fugger was diagnosed with cardiomyopothy (still learning about it, but more or less a severe irregular heartbeat) and we have 9 days to take him back for another heart test. All we were told was to stay away from soft treats like Snausages, but reading your posts will give me a better understanding of what he should be eating. Thanks for sharing your story, and I hope Belle does even better at the next checkup!!

I'm so glad things are going well with Belle! I know you're probably a nervous wreck every time she starts galloping around! I know you want to scream "Slow Down"! Keep the good news coming!

I am worried a bit about Belle today. She went to the vet for blood work, and when they took her into the back, the vet listened to her heart and she was having an arrhythmia problem. She decided to run an EKG and Belle was having runs of about 4-5 PVCs and then the rhythm was going back to normal. This is the first time since we discovered her problem in February that something like this has come up. The vet is going to fax the EKG to the cardiologist and get their opinion. Right now, the vet is thinking that since Belle has been growing so much over the past two months, we just need to make some adjustments to her medications. I pray that this is all we need to do. Please keep Belle in your thoughts as we try to figure out what is going on.
