Has anyone ever experienced a boxer dying from Congenital encephalitis.

I had a 1 year old Boxer that died in July of 2003 from this supposidly.

She was always very thin and sick the entire time we had her. I could feed her a bag of good food and some canned food and she would never gain any weight. I woke July 27th and she started having a seizure. My husband immediately took her to the vet and stopped the seizure. They could not find anything wrong with her. Later that day, she died at the Vets office. I had her cremated and have a beautiful urn with her picture in it and look at it everyday. I just wonder if there was anything that I could have done. About 3 Months prior she had a kidney infection and the vet said that was cleared up. But, her kidney's shut down with this "congenital encephalitis". I was wondering if anyone has had an experience like this or heard of it before.

I had waited for 10 years until I was settled to get her and to have her die so suddenly without much explaination just broke my heart. :(

I am very leery of getting another boxer even though my boxer I had as a child lived to be 15 years odl with no health problems at all. I am almost at the point where I can let another boxer into my heart but I am so afriad that It will happen again.

I'm so sorry to hear about your baby girl. I haven't heard of this before, but maybe if you research it you can find out more.

I wouldn't let this scare you from having another boxer. I feel that even though we outlive our dogs, life is soooo much better with a dog involved. It's worth the wonderful times (even if they are short) to spend it with a furbaby than to live without one.

I admit, I waited a year after my 16yr old Lhasa passed to get another dog. I thought I could never go through that pain again, but I am loving being a mommy again!

I' ve never heard of it either...

Im not great help. I am so sorry to hear about your baby. I can't imagine the pain that must have been. I agree about doing some research also. I definetly would not let that stop you from letting another little lovebug into your life. You have an extra lot of love to give and I'm sure there's another little boxer out there who wants your love! Rachel

but you know, back then (i am NOT in any way saying that you're old), even 10-15 years ago, the boxer breed was not as popular as it is today...so of course you have those BYB exploiting the breed, in turn, causing a weaker breed. i'm sure back then the breed was much hardier (if that makes sense).
does this make sense?

Now, I can't wait to get another boxer just a little (gunshy).

I am almost possitive that Daisy came from a BYB. Not to destroy their reputation, but, I got her from Rush Kennel in Pleasant Garden, NC. I checked them out and everything seemed in order however, when I called to get her papers I never received a call back to my 10 calls. It was at this point I realized that I made a mistake with my choice of breeders.

Even when she died, I called to let them know what the Vet said and they never called me back. I didn't want anything from them just to inform them that there may be a problem with their boxers.

After reading what I should have looked for on this board, I realized that since I didn't see the Kennels, or the Parents, or anything, I probably just contributed to the BYB business. Of course, I didn't do it intentionally. It just makes me sick to think of what other boxer parents are purchasing from them.

I could only imagine the conditions the animals were in. It looked GREAT from what I could see but, I don't want to speculate on what I could not see. I just get a bad feeling everytime I see a BYB busted on the Animal Planet Shows (I just got DirecTV).

I appreciate you letting me vent, I am just so paranoid now.

Thank you so much for this information. I wish there were some way to report her and someone to report her to. I will file a complaint with the BBB.

I just cannot fathom breeding defective dogs and knowing about it. Unsuspecting famlies devote their lives to their animals and then suddenly they die for NO good reason.

I am so angry and sad right now.
