My Brandy

Boxer Pal
Brandy is my first Boxer, and some of the things she does confuse me. For the last two days she refuses to eat or drink anything. I took her to the vet and they said that nothing is wrong with her, she was playful and alert at the vet. But when I got her home, she didnt want to play, and she didnt want to eat. she would just lay next to my feet with her sad eyes. I dont know what to do!!! she keeps rubbing her nose and ears with her paws (she never did this before two days ago) and I have been trying to figure out what is wrong. I am really worried about her and dont know what else to do. Any suggestions??

I would take her to another vet for a second opinion.

Also, what are you feeding her - that may play a part in it. . .

If she is a young pup, she will sleep most of the time until she's about 8-12 weeks old.

That said, welcome to BW!

Rubbing with the paws, especially at the ears, could indicate an ear infection, or itching from an allergy. Either one could cause the lethargy you describe.

How old is Brandy?

A vet's office is a place of stimulation, new sights, sounds, and distractions which can cause a dog to be excited or timid.

Did the vet check her ears for infection? Was the vet aware of the face rubbing with the paws?

Going off food for a day or two is not necessarily an indication of something serious. I'd be a bit more concerned about her not drinking. Has Brandy been urinating, having normal bowel movements? Dehydration would be a more immediate threat.

I'd opt for a second opinion since you don't seem comfortable with the vet's diagnosis. Vet's vary in competence, and even a competent vet may overlook something from time to time.

Update on Brandy

Well she has been urinating normally although she has not been drinking water. She just looks at her bowl, sniffs a little, then looks up at me. (insert sound of my heart breaking!)

She will lick my hand for a minute if I wet it with the water, but drinking it, no luck.

The vet was told about the ear rubbing. I really did not feel comfortable with him, and I am looking for someone else to take her to. Im just worried sick!

New vet, right away. Try to give her some ice to lick on. Or I have heard that pedialyte(sp) will do it, but others can inform you better. The little ones get dehydrated to easilly. Keep a close eye on her. I know how it feels when they look up at you with those lil' eyes! You're in our thoughts. good luck!

Update on my baby!!

I went home during lunch and tried to give her some Pedialyte... didnt work. she knocked the bowl over and looked up at me. I gave her an ice cube, she played with it for a few minutes and took a lick or two, which gave me hope. But then she just sat there.

I am worried about my queenicon so much. I have an appointment to take her to the vet after work today, so hopefully that will help!

Have you tried feeding her a small piece of chicken? I mean small. ...just to see if she's interested. How old is she? Does she display any signs of parvo?

Dempseysmama is right, you need to get some fluid in her or she will get dehydrated. If she's very young, that could happen quickly. Definitely let her lick some ice cubes.

Young pups do sleep a lot and if you JUST got her, she's probably confused and lonely. I would get her to a different vet ASAP, but in the meantime, have you tried letting her lie in your arms? She might fall asleep like a baby.
