i just got my first boxer 2 weeks ago at 7 weeks old. he is such a lover and snuggler. my question is it is okay for them to live in a condo as long as you exercise them regularly. some people keep saying that it is cruel to keep a boxer in a condo. it is a pretty good size condo and i plan on taking him out to play every day. we have a large grass area to play plus a dog park and dog beach right by my house. we are going to move within a year anyway to a house. is there anything special i should be doing

It is not cruel as long as you are getting him out for regular exercise. Daily walks and runs in the park are great:)

I don't think it is cruel either.

We lived in a condo for almost 5 years. I just took Cody for a walk every time he had to go out. My parents lived near by and they had a fenced in yard, we took him over there quite frequently. Even sometimes just because it was nice out and it gave him time to run and spend the day with another dog and my parents when they were home. He was over weight towards the end but that was our fault, I free fed him. Now I know better.

Doggy daycare is a good option too if you feel he is not getting enough exercise, and it gives you a quiet night because they are so tired. Just another option.

We live in a townhouse and will be purchasing a townhome next year. The first year we had Rocky we lived in an apartment, then we moved to a house, and now we are back in a townhouse. He has adjusted fine to every environment and honestly nothing much has changed for us. When we lived in the house, we had a fenced in back yard, but we still took him out on leash to potty. I wanted him to know the difference between business and play, so to speak. And I also didn't want him to get out of the habit of pottying on lead. :)

yep, we have our 2 in a Condo right now, this is quite the adjustment from a 3000sqft house we were living in (w/ roommates), and a HUGE fenced-yard. The dogs don't really seem to care too much... We take them out atleast twice a day, usually more, and usually one of the times we take them out its 40+min. Afterall, boxers are happiest when they are w/ their families. :D good luck w/ your baby.

ps. (if you don't already know..) 7wks is far too young for any real exercise. just playing is enough exercise for a pup that young. gradually you can start working up to short walks on lead, and etc.. There should be no full-on running for miles, or biking (forced exercises) until the dog is full-grown. (18mos)

I live in an apartment and Chloe our little girl is happy as can be. It cracks me up how people make such a big deal about having a fenced in area for their dogs to exercise in. IMO, a small fenced in yard, where you shove your dog out to go to the bathroom and sometimes "play" isn't nearly enough exercise. They need walks and runs.

As long as you regularly exercise your dog, they will be fine...

I, too, live in an apartment and have no problems. As long as you exercise your puppy daily, you should be fine. The only problem I have with apartment living is barking.

Cruelty is leaving a dog in a backyard 24/7, not allowing them to live among you in the house. Don't worry about what people say. Boxers do fine in apartments. Just don't slack off with the daily exercise, or you'll have quite a hyper dog on your hands! :)

Good luck!

I live in a 900 sqft condo with Copper and two cats...things are great. I don't know many dogs that do their exercising in the house no matter what size it is. Even if my condo was five times bigger Copper wouldn't leave my side indoors. Have a great time with the pup and good luck.

I live in a less than 900 square foot apartment with Cortes and a cat(as well as my husband). The puppy will be fine as long as he gets daily walks and play time. Training is also good to use up some of that excess energy - I think the mental stimulation wears Cortes out much more quickly then an equal amount of just playing or walking, but he gets both.
