Boxer Pal
I am currently researching Boxers for a possible future dog for me. I'm not taking owning my first dog lightly and am trying to compile a mountain of info! lol
One of my first questions is how much dogs the average boxer eat a day and about on average how much do you pay for food? I know corn is a no no so I looked at Petsmarts website on food they carry. I'm looking at so far
Castor & Pollux
Science Diet Natures Best
Wellness
AvoDerm
Blue Buffalo
By Nature
Natures Recipe
I am open to other foods, but right now I'm looking to find out how much I can expect to spend a month on food alone. Thanks!

I have three dogs, and every dog is different. My boxer eats three cups of high-quality kibble/day. Check out Dog Food Analysis - Reviews of kibble for food suggestions, as you'll want to go with the best you can afford. And keep reading! The more you see the antics, legendary stubbornness, and implacable entertainers these guys are, you're decision will become easier and easier. And the smooshy love kisses...but I might be a little biased....

I feed Taste of the Wild (stay away from Science Diet anything IMO) and my 67 pound 3 1/2 year old active Boxer eats 2 1/2 cups of that a day. I pay $40 for a bag and that lasts me around 6 weeks give or take. My 62 pound 9 year old no activity senior Boxer ate 2 cups of the same food a day.

Hope that helps.

Juno is my active, 50 pound, almost-2-year-old gal and she gets 3 cups a day of Blue Buffalo. A 30# bag is somewhere between $45-$50 and lasts us roughly a month, maybe a little longer... I have a hard time keeping track haha.

You can never guarantee how much an individual dog is going to need to eat, but I will say I have never met a medium sized dog that needed more than 3 cups a day (I consider boxers medium). Most of them eat less than that.

My girl will be 5 months old tomorrow. She weighs 40-ish pounds (been a week since last weigh in at 40 pounds).
Eating Taste of the Wild. 3 cups per day. I buy the 15 pound bags and they last me about a week and a half plus. Right at $30/bag. Just started adding in canned food with dinner. $2.00/can which will last a week.
Food seems to be the least expensive item as far as having a dog, IMO. Factor in treats which I buy every 2 weeks which runs me about another $20.00 or so and bully sticks (cheaper online) but close to $5.00/each (she gets one daily).
If you feed a high quality food and treats with chew items thrown in you can expect to pay about $20-$25 a week on food "stuff".

Natural Balance and Blue

As everyone else has said - each dog is different.

Rocki has been on:
Natural Balance LID - Venison and Sweet Potato
Blue Buffalo - Chicken and Rick

She has done well on both foods. I got through a 30# bag of Blue Buffalo every 4-6 weeks. Rocki eats between 2.25-2.75 cups per day. She went through Natural Balance (28# bag) every 4 weeks. The Blue Buffalo is cheaper but she has more gas with it.

Bella last weighed in at 61# and she eats 2 cups of TOTW per day. The 30# bag costs me $40.00 and lasts for over a month.

We also feed taste of the wild which costs us $40 for the 30lb bag and last a little over a month for our 75lb boy.

Awesome! Thanks so much! One more question. Are there any store bought treats that are just not good for them, or that I should stay away from?

Rocky also eats Taste of the wild - any variety - and actually eats 4 cups/day. He's 15 months and 70# - still skinny as a rail. He is very active so I think that is why he tends to eat more. There are some days he won't eat the entire 4 cups but I'd say on average the bag lasts 3 weeks to 1 month. I get the 30# bag for 42. Treats can be expensive too - I also buy them every 2 weeks or so.

As others have said - it will really depend on the dog. Some of them eat like crazy, some are picky.
