Boxer Pal
Our little boy Jackson. is 6 month old 'puupy'. He is doing well with house braking, but does not obey a come command. Also, we have to stop the people chewing. I don't want to be a chew toy. Any suggestions how to correct this bnehavior, and how to train him to come?

Thanks

Hey there! I notice you are in Fort Washington:) I am in Radnor:):) wow! what a small world! A few suggestions:
With the chewing..he is probably teething..what we did were a few things
1st we tried yelping when he nibbled on us he kind of looked at us funny and did stop but then really didn't know what to do so we taught him the word kisses.. whenever he gives kisses or is forced to give kisses cause mommy sticks her face right in front of his LOL!! we say good kisses, good kissyboy etc..
Lastly what we did for the little nibbler was cross our arms when he began to nibble..after a second or two we would give him another chance and if he nibbled again, the arms were crossed again... I can't say for sure which worked, maybe it was a combination of all of them:)
As for the come command...we are still working on this...but we are doing basic obedience with the Philadelphia Training Club so you may want to look into it...what they are teaching is first try and get the dog to come on a 6ft leash and then gradually go to a 12ft. I think most importantly is consistancy...think of what you are going to say and use this command each and every time..we use Here Biggs...real original hahahaha good luck and maybe we can get together sometime for a playdate.....

Also there is a search button here on each page. Use it and search terms such as "biting" and "nipping" and you'll find tons of information on how to deal with this problem.

Also, training classes will be most beneficial to you in working the recall or come command. You have to show the dog that coming to you is the very best, most rewarding thing that could possibly ever happen to the dog so that he will ALWAYS want to come to you when called.

There are many good books, many listed in our book forum, which can be of great help to you in training as well. Particularly, "The Culture Clash" and "The Dog Listener" and "Training your Boxer"

Good luck.
