So I'm going to ask the controversal question of which is better for a boxer...or really any dog; the collar or the harness. I've talked to several people on what they think is best, and it seems like all my friends are slpit 50/50. My bulldog is pretty lazy so a just a collar works for him, but my boxer has the normal puppy energy and sometimes pulls to the point of gagging herself. What would be best to use in her case?

I vote for the harness. I feel terrible when they gag and choke when walked with a collar. Plus, I'm unable to walk Lola with a flat collar as she will find a way to slip out of it. We use just a standard "Sure Fit" Premier harness when doing fun walks and then a "Sensation" harness when we need to keep Lola from pulling. Premier also makes a version of the "Sensation" harness called the "Easy Walk". These are a nice, gentle and safe way to keep your dog from pulling as it just uses pressure at the chest and behind the front legs.

If you have trained your dog to walk properly on a leash, then a collar is fine. For those of us who have dogs that like to pull a bit or take off when they see a rabbit, then I go for the harness!

I am a fan of the harness!!! Kujo still pulls HORRIBLY and it helps :) I'm hoping he will learn and eventually we can graduate to a coller because I like the way they look better.

I don't think either is best for a Boxer, IMO I prefer a Gentle Leader head collar. I'm not voting simply because there isn't an "other" option. I don't like just plain collars that go around the neck, but I'm not a fan of a harness either. However, the key to the head collars is to use them properly and from people I've seen many many many do not and that seems to be where a lot of the issues come into play. However used properly I prefer them over anything else.

I just use a regular collar and teach them to walk nicely on that.

But for the time when they're not trained yet, I'd go with something that is meant to stop them from pulling, like a Halti harness. A head collar might fit in this category too, but I'm not a fan of those.

We use a prong collar (used correctly) and a leather leash so we can correct him when he pulls. Been a lifesaver for us. Otherwise, the head collar works well if it doesn't slip off of his nose.

If it slips off the nose then you have the nose piece too loose, if you tighten it up a bit that won't happen.

Rudy wears a harness because she has her issues and it is easier to control her. Duke on other hand just has his collar cause he is no problem on a walk and we rarely ever need to "control" him.
