No, she didnot ask me to buy any books--I am more or less familiar with homeopathy......it is still practiced in India. I had got a bunch of homeopathic meds for Royina while I was in India this Dec. I try to read all about Homeopthay on the internet...but I guess a book will always be more informative---nothing can beat me a book.
You have always been a big help to me, and also a support.
We will take one day at a time and see how Draco does.......The "specialist" had told me that pythiosis is fatal and I read somewhere that less than 5% of the dogs make it over 3 months after being diagnosed with it..that too with expensive treatment. This 27th Draco will complete 4 months.....at least he is here--and today a lady saw him after more than a month and she told me that he really looks much more skinnier than before, but at the same time he looks much healthier and alert than what he was in mid-November.

Yes, I'd appreciate it if you could send me that woman's email.

For the first year that Oscar was sick it was sort of up and down, but now he's been having pretty constant diarhea for the last 9 months or so. The last two prescription foods we tried him on did nothing -- he'd improve slightly and then go back downhill and he started to look terrible and act lethargic. Since we've been cooking for him, he still has symptoms, but he looks and acts normal.

I'm always interested to find out what other people have tried, what was successful and what was not. Right now Oscar will have days when he is fine and can hold it for 6-7 hours, other days he'll have an accident after being alone for only an hour or two. I can't figure out any rhyme or reason or pattern.

Regarding journals -- what exactly are you all keeping track of? (I assume amounts of food, meds, etc., but anything else?)

Juno I wonder about those "specialist":confused: When ever my furbabies get eye injuries I don't go to my vet I go straight to my eye specialist but she is special. I drive an hour to get to this eye clinic but it's worth it.

Now as for the "specialist" who wanted to put Mona on steroids for her pemphigus for the rest of her life, which I did not do........ and the "specialist" who put Mona on some hormone med. which made her worse..... and then there was the "specialist" who wanted to put her on dry special kibble diet for her pancreatitis which she is not eating, she is happily eating a natural raw food diet. I guess 1 out of 4 is not bad. At least none of them told me to put Mona down, but if I had started her on the steroids it's something they might have suggested later when she gets worse from the steroids. I think I'll stick with a simpler treatment from a holistic vet. Dr.B is pretty straight forward but once you get to know her.... she is cool. We flew her out here last year to give a full day seminar on Holistic Care.

the reason for a journal is to keep detailed info such as how does the stool look( Thats fun - stringy poop. soft at the end or beginning, digested food or not, where is the blood at the end or beginning or middle, squirting out, ropey etc.ect) also when does the vomiting happen ( small amout, all of the food, comes out right away or later), how are the eyes what color is the discharge( green, white, stringy) hows the coat( dry, oily,pimples, hives) and what time does all this happen. it's interesting to look back at my notes from a year ago and see Monas progress.

Sugar's Diagnosis

First off thank you all for your good information. I have taken it all in and have been inquiring on a few things.

The final results from the Scope is Canine Histocytic Ulcerative Colitis (CHUC) also known as Boxer Colitis. Before we took her in for the scope we took her off all meds a little over two weeks before. That way we could start from a clean slate to determine what works and what doesnt. As of about 5 days ago we started her on 3 different antibiotics. (ill look these up at home and post tonight what they are). At least now we know what to start treating her for.

The good news is that it looks like having her system cleaned out ( the enimas and such) for the scope has done wonders for her. Even before we started on the new medication she was making an amazing turn around. I think that the colon was just so irratted from all the mucas and blood that it was causing her more problems. Since the Scope she has gained 1.5 pounds, has regular stoles (still cow patty like but not all liquid), very little blood and mucas if any at all, and she has all of her normal energy back (Sunday was a beautifal day and we spent the whole time running around the back yard with out her cramping every 5 minutes). We also get to sleep thru the whole night now for almost a week. Woo Hoo!!!!

The plan as of now is too stay on the anibiotics till next week sometime then take a look at how she is doing. Most likely we will have too put her on steroids. I hate having to go to steriods but its necessary to slow down the immune system. Once she has been on steriods we will be putting her on diet most likely of duck and potatoe.

As far as switching to holostic care. Not at this time. I have used the same vet for over 15 years now and im not changing any time soon. He is very thorough and I have been quite impressed with the Specialist we have at OSU at the moment. We are lucky enough to live near The Ohio State University. They have imo one of the best medical facilities in the country.

Colitis

Thank you to all of you who have postings in this forum!

My Nellie is a 10 month old fawn, who started with (what I know now are) signs of colitis at 4 months old. We have tried everything to find out what it is she did not have! But after reeding everyones storys I called my vet, last night she got meds for colitis and I am very happy. I really feel like this time the meds will help her!
