Cold Weather coop up?

I guess this is more of a question for the cold climate livers...

It's gotten cold lately (not bad for me, today's 50s) but Venus won't go outside. I have to carry her out there and plop her in the grass and do this a few times before she'll go pee in the grass. Sometimes she'll just squat by the back door on the concrete. :(
How do I train her to like it outside when it's cold out? I've tried running around the backyard calling her to come, and throwing toys and going to get them. She just sits on the porch. It's like she's scared of the cold or something. She won't even go for a walk with me. We made it to the end of the driveway and she was pulling and whinning to go back inside. I don't want her to stay inside because she just wants to sleep the day away (which then we have night problems that I've written about elsewhere).

Try getting her a little sweater or coat and see if that helps.

I think the sweater idea is good. I don't know if you'd take a couple small treats and coax her out that way. It is getting cold here in PA, but Tyson seems to love it. Seems like it gave him even more energy. Can't wait to see what he does with snow. Maybe find out this weekend. We are to get around an inch of snow.

I think a sweater or coat is a good idea. You may have to leash her and make her go for short walks, she has to get used to the cold enough to do her business. It seems like she is quite young and will get more used to it (as we all do every fall & winter). SuzyQ does not like the cold and below 20 will spend very little time out doors. She always goes potty outside, but in the coldest winter weather most of her exercise is indoor games. Some of the boxers here at BW don't seem to mind the cold, but mine certainly does.

London doesn't seem too interested in being out in the cold either.. right now she just does her business quickly and then runs to the door to go back inside... hahaha...

It is getting down in the upper 20's at night and Buddy shivers pretty badly when he goes out in the morning. He wants nothing to do with outside. It's actually very hard to potty train him when it's so cold out. He wants back in the house before he does his business. I'm thinking of getting him a sweater for the winter months.

You live in Texas....here in Michigan we call that tropical.

I guess I don't have advice because neither of my boxers minded going out in the cold...even the zero degree weather. How long they wanted to stay out did vary.

I have found that if I go out, then they will go out. I usually have trouble when it rains. What they don't know is that hat thing (umbrella) over my head keeps ME dry.

But you seem to get out and your dog simply sits on the porch. It could be an age thing, too.

My girl hats the rain. Refuses to go out in it and when I force her, it's a quickie and then races back to the door. She gets a little more sensetive to cold when it hits about 40. Under 20 and she wont leave without her coat. Of course, that only stays on til one of the other pups bite it and rip it off of her. Then she sits at the fence crying to tell me she wants back in.

my guy wears a coat when its 40 degrees or colder,anything above that and hes ok,he gets an undershirt made out of polar fleece and his coat when its really cold(nebraska winters get well below zero wind chill),last year he was fine in 20 below wind chills for short periods of time,the general rule of thumb is for me,20-30 minutes max out in the cold.in snow and ice,vaseline on the feet helps the pads from freezing also,mushers wax works great too.
