Hi,
I am also from Northern Virginia and Oscar has done ok with the winter. His paws get a bit sensitive. The funniest thing was to see him in the snow for the first time last year. He didn't care for that too much. I just wouldn't keep them out too long in either extremes hot or cold.

is it any different as a puppy.. obviously they probably can't stay out as long... we are gettting our pup in about 3-4 weeks... right as winter hits the northeast... I am worried that the little guy will freeze his little tail off... I guess just keep and eye on him and not leave him out for long???

We got Gideon about mid-November--right at the beginning of cold weather. At first, he hated going out. But we made him go out (to potty, etc). Because he had fine, baby fur, we put him in a wool sweater when we walked or played outside for any length of time. We never had too much of a problem once we introduced him to it. He didn't understand the snow at first--but with his sweaters on--it never seemed to bother him. Don't worry about getting your boxer in another month--they'll quickly get used to it.

Capone hates the cold and the snow he goes out to go bathroom and run right back in he will try to pee on the porch so his feet will not have to touch the snow or water. And vermont can get very cold and snowy.

I got Roxie's fleece out last night that we bought her last year. Its sooo snug, but kinda fits. Really cute! Baxter hasnt been out in the snow yet, so this year will be REALLY interesting! I'm not a fan of the snow or cold.
