Every week I try to give our two a tin of sardines, but haven't been the best at giving them. I've looked to see at pet stores if they carried some kind of supplement to add to their food and the only thing I found was a small bottle of salmon oil that was almost $20, no thanks...

I can get cod liver oil pills at a good price and it contains the same omega fatty acids that provide good bone/joint health. Technically they are for human consumption, does anyone think there would be a problem with giving them to the dogs? My gut is telling me it will be fine, but I don't want to potentially harm them (obviously!!). The dose was 1 pill a day, so I was thinking maybe a pill with breakfast every other day? Does this send up warning flags to anyone??

I think it would just be easier for me to remember if I was adding it to their food every other day, not to mention the smelly breath after eatting a tin of sardines!!!

I am not sure if it would be ok, I would be more inclined to give them the sardines, I know mine love them :)

I buy just the regular fish oil capsules to give our dogs. I didnt see cod liver pills though. Very good for the coat! I also just give one capsule daily of 1,000 mg.

I bought cod liver oil to give to the dogs but read somewhere on here that it wasn't all that great for them. Of course now I cannot remember why but whatever I read was enough to throw the cod liver away. So I guess if I were you I would use the search button and read up. I use fish oil caps.
