Coat/fur types?

Hello everyone,
I'm wondering if there are different types of fur/coat types on Boxers? My 3 year old brindle girl has very short, wiry type of hair. My 9 week old fawn boy has longer, softer hair. Is this because he is a puppy? I had read someplace else that someone had posed this question before and that perhaps there is two different types of fur/coats on Boxers? I believe the longer, softer hair is due to the fact that he is a pup. Am I right? Just curious! Cindy W.

Well, yes, at 9 weeks your pup probably does still have much of his puppy coat, which is generally longer and softer than the adult coat. However, some Boxers do have longer, thicker coats even into adulthood (my middle boy does, although as he's finishing maturing - he's 2 1/2 - it is getting shorter and tighter).

I just thought I'd add my thoughts for what it is worth.......

Ali is 3 1/2 years old & her fur still feels & smells like a puppies, it is absolutley beautiful, just like velvet.

Eric is 3 years old & his fur is soft (but not as soft as Ali's), but also alot thicker. He sheds heaps more fur than Ali too.

I always put it down to his father is from England & maybe they naturally develop thicker coats due to the colder climate....just a thought anyway.....:confused:
