Cloudy eyes in 1 yr old

Our boxer girl just turned 1 in August. Within the last few weeks we have noticed that her iris' are cloudy on the outer area in both eyes. Our vet talked to a vet opthamologist, and then she prescribed some drops that don't seem to be helping. We boarded her over Thanksgiving with our other three dogs at the vets, and ever since they came home, she has been more lethargic than usual. (She has severe kidney damage and tires more easily than the others, but this is unusual even for her.) I don't know if any of these things are related, but I am concerned about her eyes. Has anyone heard of this in a boxer so young? I'm worried that she is laying around more because maybe she can't see too well. This little girl has already cost us a small fortune (and worth every penney), so I'm trying to find out all I can before I take her to a vet opthamologist myself. Any help would be appreciated.

THe vet needs to look at internal sources for the eye problem. Things like kidney function (is she toxic?), diabetes, glaucoma, etc.

Thanks. Although she is getting up and playing more with the others and the cloudiness has lessened, we will be making another trip back to the vet. Hopefully it won't have anything to do with her kidneys. She's such a sweetheart.

When I took Reilly to a opthamologist for a hemorrhaging eye - they found a cataract on his R eye. He said it was in all probability a birth defect. Reilly is only 10 months old. Now when he looks at me in a certain light, I can see the cloudiness. He didn't think surgery was needed at this time, and gave me 2 kinds of eyedrops to use. He goes back to the eye doctor for a follow-up after the holidays. It turned out cheaper than what I thought it would be to go to a specialist. The visit and meds cost under $200. In my case, however, because of the hemorrhaging the regular vet didn't want to take any chances, and referred me to an opthamologist right away. The cataract was found by chance.

These can be protein deposits on the eye. What type of food are you feeding your girl since her kidneys are compromised? Diet plays a huge part in overall health. You may want to discuss some options with your vet :)

My suggestion is this is a Boxer Eye Ulcer. They are quite common in Boxers and highly treatable. Cloudy eye and alot of winking are your two big signs. If you are having her treated by a Board Certified Opthomologist, then you are in the best of hands.

It can takes weeks or months to heal. A younger dog will heal quicker. I just went through this with my 9-1/2 year old bitch, Crystal. It took 4 months to heal. But this one was just awful and rather pesky about not wanting to heal. All is better now :)
