Clip or not clip

I have a 15 week old boxer and I can not decide if I want his ears clipped or not. Can those who have had their dogs ears clipped give me some advise, I will take good or bad. Let me know if you are glad you done it or you wish you had not have put your baby through that. How was the treatment and how long did you have to keep up the cleaning? If you are undecided, I would suggest that you don't do it.

There is a lot of after care to get the ears to stand up and it's possible that they never will. I did crop Markus, but I won't do it again. My next boxer will have floppy ears.

Since your boxer is already 15 weeks old and you're still undecided, I would definitely vote against it. It's recommended that the ears are cropped in the 8-12 week time frame with and no later than 16 weeks. By the time you've done the necessary research and made the decision to crop, your puppy will be well over the 16 week mark.

I got Nitro's ear cropped when he was around 9 weeks old. Like what others said 8 - 12 weeks is the best time to get the ears crop. It's not recommended after 16 weeks and since you only got 1 week left and still undecided it's a tough decision. As far as getting the ears cropped I never regret it since I decided since the first day I got Nitro that's what i wanted. The only decision I have to make is finding the right vet to do the procedure. As far as after care you really have to spend a lot of time and effort since the cartilliage of the ears of boxer differs from one another so you could be taping for only 2 months or maybe as long as a year just to get the ears to stand up. So if you really want a crop ear and you already found a vet that would do it then go ahead. I just want to warn you that's it's going to be time consuming if you end up with a boxer with weak cartilliage. Also it can be expensive if you don't know how to tape the ears yourself.

If it is getting to late to crop the ears its not so bad, the floppy ears are so cute. Crosby has floppy ears and they are so lovely and so much part of his character. I love the floppy ears.

here in the uk its illegal to crop their ears (but not their tails wierd huh?) persoanlly i think they are much better uncropped but that probably just because ive never seen a cropped eard boxer in real life. baileys ears are so soft and floppy i love them just as they are!! i would imagine that the time pressure means that its a more serious procedure the later on it is? is it worth the risk if there is one?

I have one that is cropped and one that is not. If I had to make the choice again to chop, it would be a NO. Lots of work in tapping and I'm kind of fond of the floppy look that my male has.
