Hooray for you! I have also been the target of "boxer discrimination". It's amazing how people can be so self-righteous and ignorant all at the same time. Thanks for stepping up to the plate to help rectify the situation. smashicon

It is my pleasure to post the letter...be warned...it's a little lengthy!:D (and there was even alot edited out!) I guess the articles can't be too long....but geesh...there was so much I wanted to say, and Cindy provided so much information for me!)

Insulted By Ignorance

I have had a recent encounter with someone ignorant to dog breeds! I had my BOXER with me and a woman hurled insults to my dog and to me because she had confused my dog with another breed!
Regardless of my choice of breed, nobody has the right to verbally attack me because of my preferred choice of breed. If you are not educated in dog breeds, ask me nicely and I will tell you all you want to know about my Boxer!
People commonly mistake a boxer for a pit bull. They are, in fact, two separate breeds.
The Boxer has a stable temperament that has made it a favourite working and companion dog throughtout the ages. Sleek, strong and self-assured, the Boxer is one of several working breeds developed in Germany in the late 19th century. It is a member of the Bullenbeisser, ancestor of the mastiff-type dogs. The small Bullenbeisser is the progenitor of the Boxer and Bulldog.
Boxers love people and become deeply devoted to their family, and they seem to adapt perfectly to every mood! They are great dogs with children, seemingly devoted to them. Great companions for youngsters because they are patient and gentle. They are very trainable, intelligent and anxious to please. They have been successful in guide dog work and have proven very adaptable in this regard.
Boxers look intimidating, no doubt about it. Their size and natural tendency to bark and alert can be frightening. Boxers are NOT attack dogs. Any Boxer that does behave viciously or bites a human is not exhibiting a Boxer's temperament.
Viciousness is not a trait you have to train out of a Boxer: it should not be there to begin with. Viciousness displayed in any Boxer is more likely to be a result of Backyard Breeders who do not practise proper health testing. They are only in it for the money, pumping pups out hand-over-fist, and destroying a very prominent breed!
Our home will never be without a Boxer! We have found the perfect breed for our family!
So, the next time you encounter a dog that you are unfamiliar with, do not hurl insults and foul language! Instead, ask what kind of dog it is. You may be surprised to get a description of a wonderful dog like the Boxer!

Sharon, that was a great letter! appicon appicon and who knows maybe that woman perhaps recognized herself in it. If not her, I bet there are a lot of people with that same misconception about our beloved furbabies. And like the many others of you have written, we've had lots of dogs, ever since I was a little girl, but I've never been owned by one like Scrapper. When you see my hubby kissing him on his big Boxer head, you know that some magic has been worked by that wonderful Boxer charm!

Kudos!!
