cleaning white boxers eye area

Hello all! I've searched & searched the forums but am not having any luck with my searches. My question is to anyone who has experience with white boxers or other white dogs. I can't seem to keep my babies eyes clean! I bought the Tears Clears solution from the pet store, but she won't stay still long enough for me to wipe both eyes! Anyone have any other solutions to cleaning the brown stuff from my babies white fur? Someone told me once they used some kind of milk of magnesia solution but I can't find anything on the internet about that.

I tried different solutions but nothing worked, then I changed his food and presto no more stains!

My boy Beau has half a white face and I know what you mean. I just wipe it daily with a wet rag when I'm in the shower since he follows me in there anyway. I don't really get any heavy staining to begin with though. The food could very well be it though. I feed Beniful, and canned pedigree. You can look at my pics which are recent in which his eye on the white half of the face was not specifically cleaned up for his photo shoot. Also too when he gets his weekly bath I do lather his enitre head and face of course being careful by the eyes, but maybe that keeps it in check also.

It may be seasonal. Ava's eyes have not even a trace of stains in the colder weather. They return as the weather gets warmer. She is on the same diet year round.

Ava's are in the process of vanishing now. They are nearly gone.

For some, it is diet related.

We have tried Crystal Eye and other products during the "stain season" with only moderate success.

They are not always effective.

Search for 'tear stain' and you will find loads of info. If you do a web search for the same term you will also get many links to articles about what causes this and how to prevent/get rid of it.

We used to have Maltese dogs when I was younger and my mom always use hydrogen peroxide to clean under the eyes. She just had to be careful not to get any in the eyes!

Everything we bought to get rid of the stains was a complete waste of money for us! Only thing that worked was changing food....Flint River Ranch is a great, but expensive food....her eyes stains dissappeared within 2 months or so...we have rotated and been on Chicken Soup but they returned!

A change in diet is definetly the answer - what are you currently feeding. When I first got Finnegan (my white boy) he had tear stains until I switched him to Wellness and we has never had any staining since

Indy and Ava both are fed Innova kibble.

Ava's stains are seasonal. They are noticable, but not bad in the warm weather, and disappear in the colder weather.

We switched both of our dogs to Nutro less than 2 months ago, (for other reasons - not the tear stain situation) and I'm thinking maybe I should give it some more time before ruling Nutro out... I did do a search for "tear stains" on boxer world (couldn't think of what to call it before besides eye gunk!) as suggested and read about the apple cider vinegar in the water (I'll try that) and other possible solutions. We have a 13 year old white Persian cat, but I never had to worry about her tear stains. Actually, I think hers were seasonal because it did seem like I noticed them at different times of the year and then they would be gone. But my sweet baby Leilani, it just bothers me because I don't want people to think I don't bathe her or something! Thanks everybody for your help & suggestions! Keep them coming because it sounds like others are wondering about the same thing!
