Hi I'm new to the forum and I did a search but couldn't find an answer to my question. I was wondering what everyone uses on their carpet or hardwood floor to cleanup and accidents? I know there are a lot of products but I'm wondering if any has one they make themselves or would a commercial brand be better? I even saw one the other day that included a blacklight so that after you sprayed you could see if the urine was still in the carpet. Thanks in advance

I usually use Woolite Carpet and Stain plus oxygen remover, GREAT stuff works on urine, feces, vomit, I foster for a rescue and pet sit plus went through a dying dog and a puppy with this stuff and it's AWESOME!

For cat urine a friend of mine has a recipe that is below:

16 oz hydrogen peroxide, 1 tbsp baking soda, and 1/2 tsp liquid dish soap.
I used lemon scented dish soap, since cats don't like the smell. You mix it around, pour it on the carpet, and then scrub the heck out of it with a hard bristle scrub brush.

Obviously if you don't need that much you can halve the recipe.

Good luck!

I use a product called "By-Pass" I don't know if it is a locally produced item or if it is available anywhere. It can be used in the laundry for spotting items and will remove urine (or whatever else) from carpets. It also will remove blood from clothes if you cut yourseld and carpet.SuzyQ cut her paw on something outside and tracked little spots all over the carpet before we found out and it took it all out.

I also can say this product works very well. I used it when Mali had a UTI and had quite a few accidents. I followed up with a good dousing of white vinegar after the the stain and carpet cleaner had dried and been vacuumed.

thanks

thank you for the advice so far I have to go to the store tomorrow so I might pick up some of that woolite and give it a try. About the white vinegar do you have to dilute it and if so what is the mixture?

Thanks again

I just put the white vinegar, full strenth, in a spray bottle and sprayed away. I read on this forum somewhere that white vinegar neutralizes the smell of urine to dogs as well as people, so the dog is not 'inspired' to reuse that spot. The room may smell like a salad for a day. :D
