Now that it has been brought up, what about the APR?? ...

Cisco is APR also.
I found a breeder about 3 hours from me, was told his dogs were AKC and that he had a flashy fawn. Turned out he was APR, flashy brindle, just with very few brindle marks.
I was hooked when I saw him so I bought him anyway. (I know, wrong thing to do)
Backyard breeder for sure.

It is very common to have puppies shipped all over the US. Even a pet quality pup. After doing much research myself I chose to go with a breeder in Alaska, I lived in Washington state at the time. Shipping wasn't too expensive and I have myself a healthy dog from a responsible breeder. A friend of mine bought her pup shortly after I got mine from a breeder about 2 hours from where we lived and now her dog has been diagnosed with alot of allergies and is on Benedryl for the rest of her life. Her pup was only $150 less than mine. The extra $$ and time it took in research was well worth it to have a healthy puppy and to be supporting a responsible breeder. Palmer didn't have any problems making the trip from Anchorage to Portland, OR.

Did you physically go to the kennel? Apparently they keep it in very good shape but theyre animals are still frequently sick.

I did physically go to Paws-R-Us Kennels on two occassions a few years ago. They had barns full of dogs, every different breed imaginable. I knew very little about dog breeding at that time but it certainly wasn't right. There was an amazing amount of flies and the smell was almost overwhelming!

I should mention that the kennels were clean, the dogs did seemed happy and the people running the place were very personable... but of course it's still not right.

I believe the best way to close down "Puppy-mills" is to educate the public... the government(s) do not seem to be any hurry to legislate them to close.

yes i spoke to the woman who runs it on the phone, and she was telling me about her boston getting ready to have pups any day now and i was going to drive out there to give a deposit. I knew it was a farm because the week before I drove past it going to a friends cottage.

The people do seem nice and know what theyre doing, and they place their older dogs, but your right, its just not right.

south texas

I am from San Antonio, TX, and I too had trouble finding reputable breeders in this area, and the ones I did find didn't return my e-mails or calls. I did finally find a breeder though after almost getting ripped off from a fake out of state breeder on xxxxxxxxxx (Moderator's note: please do not post links to that kind of sites, thanks). Took my money then told me the puppy was ill and I would get a refund, then faked her death to get out of repaying me! Thanks to MC fraud protection I did get my money back after several months. Thanks to that incident not only did I learn my lesson but I found my baby girl (locally) who is 6 mo old now. Her parents were health tested and she is champion sired. She is not flashy enough to show, but 3 of her littermates are in show homes and I think they will do well in the ring. Anyway, not sure why I'm telling you all of this, I don't think I have a point here... but "hi" from south texas. And enjoy your baby... sounds like she found a good home and will grow to be healthy and strong!

trying again

I just tried to reply to you, "Dojas Mom" but somehow got thrown into another thread... so I am re-posting this. I too am from S. Texas... San Antonio to be exact! I'm sure your baby will be fine... sounds like she landed in a good home and will get excellent care! I also had trouble finding proper breeders here. Then I attempted to purchase a puppy from a "breeder" (ahem) from out of State over the internet and almost got ripped off. After sending my money and waiting 3 weeks she told me the puppy was ill and could not be sold, then she faked her own death to avoid paying me back!!! Thank God for Mastercard Fraud protection, I finally got my money back. But the good news is that I found a local breeder who sold me my baby girl (now 6 mo) from health tested parents and a champion sire. She is not flashy enough to show but I love her sooooooo much. Check out the feeding forums here... you will get some good information on food!!!! I've learned more about dog food ingredients than I ever wanted to know!!!
