City Dogs

Boxers are great city dogs. They just need enough exercise, which doesn't really hinge on where you live! There have been several threads about this, so search for 'city' or 'apartment' and you're sure to find them!

Willis does great in Calgary, which is about 1 million people. There are lots of dog parks here and he loves all the people whenever we go out, so I can't imagine there being any problems . Plus, this is a dog town... lots of folks here have doggies, so it's not a big deal...

Although I live in a smaller city now (Tulsa), I got Maggie and Susie both when we lived in NYC. We had many amenities for dogs and parks and places to exercise, etc. It was just fine. In fact the neighborhood I lived in was extremely dog friendly and accessible. Nearly everyone had a dog and we all seemed to know each other's dogs either from play dates, the dog park or just walking our dogs and stopping and greeting one another and allowing our dogs to meet and mingle.
I didn't even mind having to go potty when Maggie was a pup, even in the coldest weather. Short trips out for potty are fine too and since Boxers are not really outdoor dogs, especially in winter and the hot days of summer, there wasn't any problem. We also often enjoyed quiet walks on snowy evenings when there were few, if any, other people on the streets. Some of my best memories.

We live in Toronto and Max loves it! He loves to see all the people walk by and greets them each and every time... He does need his excercise though, and we have the luck of living right next to a huge leash-free park where all the doggies can have a ball. I think it's fine to have a boxer in the city, as long as there is a place you can take him/her to so they get to run free and enjoy themselves.

My husband and I live in downtown Austin (in a loft, nonetheless). I love it! The only downside is that we have no private yard to just let the dog out to potty.
But the plusses are that we can walk to several restaurants/pubs for dinner, and places with outside dining allow dogs! Most of these places even provide your dog with a big bowl of water.
We also live by the town lake, which has a 6 mile hike/bike trail. The biggest plus for me is that I work downtown (a few blocks from home) so I don't have to deal with traffic. More time with my dogs!
Good luck to you - and I think Boxers can adjust really well to city living. It all depends on how much you are able to exercise them.
