Chloe Is pregnant and expecting pups on Feb 7th 2004

She is expecting her pups on 7th Feb 2004.. This is her first time and mine too. The stud owner is a proffesional breeder in Malta and he is going to help me out but I would like some more suggestions because the more I know the more my mind is at rest. I love her with all my heart and I wouldn't want any thing to happen to her or the pups.

I trust she had all the proper health testing done before breeding?
I am not a breeder, so can't give too much in the way of whelping and breeding tips, but good luck with everything. Keep us posted.

You really should browse through the rearing puppies section here on boxerworld. I just read through nearly all the threads and there have been some great conversations on breeding.
Also, do a search here at boxerworld using the blue button on the right hand corner of the page. Search for words like breeding, pregnancy, etc.
Hopefully, you've already done some hard core researching and have had your dogs health tested for genetic defects, have aquired your girl from a reputable breeder, have ensured that she meets the breed standard, ideally have someone who will help mentor you though is scary experience, and also be thinking of homes for those new little lives.

Were due here on Superbowl Sunday!

Hi! I'm in the same boat as you. My first time too and my Lady is due around Superbowl Sunday! I am hoping also to get some good advise from this site.

Brindle Lady: Hope all goes well with mom and pups. I am sure you'll find an answer to most any question you may have regarding your boxer here on BW. Did your boxer girl (and the sire) go through all the proper health testing? Such as heart, hips, tyroid and such? I hope so, as that is very important.

We defiantly made sure she was in good health before and during and certainly did all the health screening recommended by our vet.

She is doing wonderful. Happy, healthy, hearty appetite. The puppies are kicking beautifully! It's such a joy. ~Bobbie

Just a comment for future reference - vets do not always know the genetic problems that occur in all breeds. Unless your vet is a Boxer breeder himself, I would not rely solely on his advice as far as what health testing is necessary. Many vets advise the owners of white Boxers to breed them, and many other vets advise the owners of well-bred Boxer puppies that their dogs are defective because they have an underbite. :rolleyes:

Hello congratulations hope everything goes well i am also in the same situation my lovely girl Jess:p is also having pups and i am new to it she is due on the 3 rd March and i hope everything goes okay. I am really nervous as she is my baby and i would love any advice like yourself on this matter as i am terrified.

Ann Batt: try doing some searches for your questions... they probably have been covered but if not, please ask...

Bobbie: As far as what health testing the vet said to do, may just be a simple yes, she's current on shots and that sorta thing. Not very many vets I've heard of know much about certain genetic ills for all the different breeds. Try doing a search online on the common genetic illnesses in the boxer breed. Those things most importantly will need to be tested on your dog to be sure she is clear, so to lessen the chance of her offspring being passed those genes for that condition. Now that she's already expecting, it'll be too late for any addtional testing... so I wish momma and pups the very best in the whelp and through the next couple months. If you have any questions at all, that you cannot find an answer to... feel free to ask it here... we are here to try to help.

It's never too late to learn and take care of testing. Even though this litter is on the way, it will still be advantageous to do genetic health screening as soon as possible and inform the owners of the pups of the results. It will at least alert them to any problems their pups might have and will let them know that the pups should not be bred if the testing shows that either parent has problems. And of course anyone interested in the pups should be told upfront that testing is not complete and that results will be shared as soon the testing is complete.
