Boxer Pal
Hello! It has been FOREVER since I've posted on the site. I just prefer to read everyone's input...but, this topic is one of personal interest. Our boxer has had 3 allergic reactions to date (she will be 4 years old this fall). We've taken her to the emergency vet two of the times, and the latest was Sunday and we gave her benedryl. It is always when she is playing outside and she must put her snoot where it doesn't belong. You can see it happening, her cheeks and eyes get all swelled in a matter of 30 minutes, she looks literally like a boxer...who got beat up pretty bad late in the match! Her eyes nearly swell closed and her cheeks get so big. The vet suspects some kind of insect because of the symptoms we describe. We carry benedryl on us at all times now when we go to the park, etc. Do you think your pup has access to some kind of spider/bee/stinging type insect?

Boxer Insane
I'm sorry, i could not respond before, my computer was down :(

well, this happened two mornings before going outside.. maybe an insect in our carpet? (spider)

but Snatch worries me nowdays. On his chest (front neck), he's got some pimples and now those had turned into about 10 bold patches. It came at the same time with this 2 allergic reactions.

I went to the vet obviously.
He tested him.. Demodex mange negative.
So the vet hopes for a bacterial skin infection. So he gave Snatch a dermotic cream, an antibiotic (2 a day) and an anti allergic (6 a day) in case this is due to an allergy.

He's getting this treatment for 2 weeks. If i observe any more patches, the vet wants to see Snatch right away for more skin and blodd tests.

The vet told me it could be an allergiy to his collar: it's a half chocking nylon collar with chain. The patches are right were the chain hangs...
I hope it's the cause of these problems.

Otherwise, i'm happy because this is not itchy, so Snatch is a happy playfull 8 month old puppy ;)

If you had this same symptoms, could you give me any ideas?

Thanks a lot,
Chrystel.

Buster has had so many allergic reactions. He has fought with hornets, wasps, bugs, things we don't know about, etc. He breaks out with these puffy spots all over him. I have affectionately began calling them the 'polka dots'. We run to the vet, get a steriod shot (the pee-pee shot, b/c it causes him to wet and he doesn't even know it) and come home. Have even done this on emergency room Sunday. You feel me?

I keep Benadryl on hand. He gets 2 and they never even faze him - doesn't slow him down at all. We used to live in the woods and he scratched and scratched and stayed broken out with stuff all the time. Late summer we were giving Benedryl every 6 hours. We have since moved and have no trees around us - now we have no allergies.

Good luck with your baby - Buster is my first boxer, too. So I totally understand you're concern. Just remember - the only stupid concern is one that isn't checked out!
