It seems that there are many negative comments on this board regarding Chicken Soup. Can someone please fill me in on exactly what the problem with this food is. I know at one time it contained a potential harmful preservative (ethyoxaquin ?), but from what I understand that has been removed. I also know that they replaced the turkey meal with Ocean fish meal. Other than that, I am not aware of any other changes. The ingredients seem very comparable to many of the highly spoken of dry kibbles on this board.

I know many people who continue to feed CS and are happy with it. However, by reading this board it seems like it should have recieved a 1 or 2 star rating rather than the 5 star rating it recieved on the dog food analysis. I just started feeding CS as part of a rotation (have used Canidae, Innova, and Merrick), and I thought that it was a decent choice.

I welcome any comments or advice.

Thanks

Excepting the ethoxyquin issue, Chicken Soup is broadly a decent food. But it's nowhere near as good as it used to be. Due primarily to removal of meat content and substitution with smaller amounts of lower quality ingredients.

It's not just what's in a food that counts ;) The amounts of each ingredient is also important.

The puppy formula still looks pretty good, but the adult and multiple new formulas are not in the same class.

GMacleod - Thanks for your reply.

Aside from substituting the ocean fish meal for the turkey meal (I believe the ocean fish meal is in the same ingredient position as the turkey meal was), how can one tell that there is:

1. Less meat content (since the ocean fish meal is in the same ingredient position as the turkey meal was). When comparing the ingredients I don't see any other changes.

2. Smaller amounts of less quality ingredients in their "new" formula.

Thanks.
