Chicken bones

I woke up this morning to the sound of my two boxers (3 1/2 and 1 1/2) in the garbage downstairs. They (probably more the young one than the older one) ate most of last night's chicken bones from a grocery store small rotisserie chicken.

I know about the potential damage chicken bone splinters can do to a dog's digestive tract, and I'm so worried. They have a vet appointment for annual shots tomorrow anyway, so I called the vet this morning. They told me to just watch them for vomiting and bloody stools. I'm concerned, though, because by the time I find bloody stools, isn't it too late?

I read about a suggestion to stick large globs of vaseline in their mouths, and when I asked the vet about it, she said to go ahead and try it to help the bones pass easier.

I'm concerned about waiting for them to pass. Does anyone have any experience with this? Please help. I'm so scared!

Were the bones cooked or raw?

Unfortunately, they were cooked.

You can wait for the bones to pass or take them in and have their stomachs x-rayed...

But if they are acting normal and you can't feel any hard areas in their stomach, I would think it's ok to wait until the bones passes. Hope things work out for your boys.
