Rawhide bones are a huge choking hazard. Because boxer babies love to run with their toys and sometimes try to swallow things they just shouldn't rawhides can be veery danerous. They get sharp edges which help them get stuck in the intestinal track and can cause choking and intestinal blockage if a piece is swallowed as it doesn't digest. A member on the board adopted a rescue baby and he died from bowel obstruction from a piece of rawhide. That is not the only incidence. They really are not good for any dogs, not safe and sometimes dipped in very harmful chemicals in the processing. A better alternative is bully sticks which are 100% protein, gully digestible. Of course still need to take it away when it gets small to prevent choking but my boy has gulped a piece down before when it was smaller and I couldn't get to him fast enough. He never had any problems with it thankfully. can also buy the large knuckle bones for them to chew on. They love those.

A few months agao I posted a thread about rawhide. I've done a cut/paste on what I wrote. I'm sure others may feel differently but please think twice before you feed your baby rawhide.
About three weeks ago I had given my Zoey (7.5 month old and our first Boxer) a rawhide treat, thinking they were good for her. Boy, was I wrong. She had been eating the treat in the living room with me. All of a sudden I saw her get up, take two steps. She looked right at me and her eyes rolled into the back of her head and she fell over onto her side. I saw her fall over and her legs went stiff. I picked her up and hit her in between her shoulders. That did nothing. I opened her mouth and could feel it but it would not come out.
She ran upstairs into her bedroom and laid on the bed.
I ran up after her and I again tried to get it out and kind of thought she was ok. Then I looked down at my pants and there was blood on my pants from where I had put my fingers down her throat. I picked her up and ran to the neighbors house across the street. His wife opened her mouth and their son, some how move it just enough for her to get more air. Zoey was able at this point to vomit and get it up on her own but it was the most frightening thing to watch, as rawhide turns to a glue like substance.
I emailed the maker of the 'treat' and they were less than responsive. All they care about is selling their product, not if it is safe or not.
I will NEVER give Zoey or any other dog another rawhide'treat' ever!
