Hello Folks!!!!

We are planning a move to Tennesee around February/March and will need to find a new vet. I was wondering what questions I need to ask, what information I should ask for and if anyone from Tennessee that's on the board could refer me to one. We haven't decided what area we want to live in, found a really nice apartment on the internet that's in Murfreesboro but it will all depend on where we find a job.

I guess the more referrals I get the better that way I have more than just one to pick from. I'm really nervous about finding a new vet cuz I don't trust just anyone with my babies- they are like my children but you all know that! =)

Any information that you can give me will be much appreciated.

Thanks a bunch!

Hi Marcy & Ryan. We moved to Tennessee from Illinois a year ago when our little girl "Bailey" was just 8 months old. Same problem-we loved our vet in Illinois. We live in Franklin (about 35 miles from where you are looking). We began our search by actually stopping by vets and asking if they had time to talk to us or if we could make an appointment to chat. The second place we went to happily invited us in, gave us a complete tour, and from the conversation we knew they knew about boxers. (The brother veterainarians even offered to assist us on personal matters like where to locate businesses, etc.) I think you will just "know" which one is right for you, but by all means conduct interviews and GET A TOUR. If the vet is willing to show you around you know they are proud of their facility. If you decide to locate in Franklin check out Battleground Veterainarian Hospital. We board our little girl there and she loves going there. By the way-you will love the winters here!!!

We just moved and we had to find a new vet. It is tough when you build a relationship that you trust to start all over. I suggest making an appointment and meet the vet and tour the facility. This is what I did prior to needing the vet so that I feel comfortable when I do have to take my crew there. Another suggestion is to find out if your vet belongs to the AAHA. You can locate some vets on the site below...good luck!!!

Thanks for your response Sue,

This is going to be a huge step for the both of us considering we've lived in Iowa our whole lives (26 years). I'm really unsure of how to do the whole thing, when to start looking for a job, etc. I've heard you don't have to pay Income taxes but you do have some other type of tax you pay- is this correct? I noticed some apartments on the internet in the Franklin area that were nice too, we are still unsure of what area we will live in guess it just depends on where we find a job at. We will have to look you and your husband up when we get there and introduce your Bailey to our boys. I haven't visited Nashville yet but my boyfriend has been down a couple times to do some recording so we are going to visit over the 4th of July and will probably go check out some apartments and scope out some towns as well.

I know I will like the winters, anything has to better than an Iowa winter, which I'm sure you experience yucky winters too since you used to live in Illinois. May I ask why you moved there and how do think it differs from IL besides weather, and things to do etc?

Thanks so much Sue for your information and maybe while we are down there we'll stop by your vet and check it out.

Thanks.

I can't help with the vet situation.....but I wanted to say I'm sorry to see you leave Iowa. There doesn't seem to be a lot of Iowans on the board. Good luck in TN...I'm sure they aren't as nice as Iowans...but you'll learn to like it :)

Careful about personally naming vets in your town, I got chastised once on this site for recommending our vet to another user, this started a chain reaction which got a bit nasty. Just a careful friendly reminder.

Marcy:

I live in Nashville and have always taken Bonham to The Brentwood Vet Clinic (I hope I don't get in trouble for posting the name!!) The people there are great! My breeder goes there and the lady at the front desk is actually the owner of Bonham's Grandparent's. They all understand boxers very well - it actually seems as though they are bias to our wonderful breed. They treat Bonham like a king everytime we go there. They even have pictures of his relatives sitting on the counter.

I'm just rambling, but I hope this helps. Brentwood is about twenty miles from Murfreesboro. I live twenty miles on the other side of Brentwood, but still justify the trip in regard to the special attention we receive.

Have a great day!
