We have just found out that Canidae has changed its formula. That explains the diarrhea. We are thinking of changing to Taste of the Wild Pacific Stream. This food is made with Salmon. They also have food made with Bison and Venison and food made with Quail, Duck and Turkey. I am just trying to find a food that will be good for my puppies that I can get locally and I would prefer and all stage since I am feeding an older dog. Does anyone have any suggestions on food. Please Help.

I would just check and make sure they don't use Ethoxyquin. Many companies that use fish will use this as a preservative. Here is a quote from dog food analysis.com on the Pacific stream.
[We note that this is a fish meal, but are not able to locate a statement on the manufacturer's website guaranteeing the use of ethoxyquin-free protein sources (Ethoxyquin is a chemical preservative, commonly added to fish meal ingredients and that is banned or heavily regulated in the human food industry due to the belief that it is carcinogenic).]

I know that Wellness and Solid Gold are two companies that use only Ethoxyquin free proteins.

Taste of the Wild does NOT guarantee that they don't use Ethoxyquin (which is why I stopped feeding it when I found out).

Food Change

We have just purchased a bag of TOTW Pacific Stream just to get the diarrhea under control. We are thinking of change to the TOTW Bison or the TOTW Duck. Does anyone know anything negative about these. I looked on the food analysis about these foods.

Yes TOTW does not guarantee that their food is Ethoxyquin free. Ethoxyquin is a pesticide (poison) and is banned for use in human products due to this reason, dog food companies use it to preserve fish primarily however I *believe* it can be used to preserve other proteins as well. It is also made by Diamond which is a very...suspicious (for lack of a better phrase) company. I would HIGHLY suggest going with another brand. if you can grain free I'd look into Solid Gold, Wellness, or Natural Balance instead.

Food Change

I just received this email from TOTW. They say that they do not use ethoxyquin. However I believe I am still going to change food. The only problem I have is we live in a small area and have limited access to some of the food. If I order on line I will be paying alot for it. I am thinking of changing to Innova Evo, adult and puppy. Does anyone know anything about this food?

Email from TOTW:
The preservation systems used by our vendors are considered proprietary information. The heat from our pet food process destroys antioxidants that are used in the ingredients that we purchase. The cooking process at our facilities is at or above 240 degrees. After the heat process (extrusion and drying), we apply natural tocopherols (Vitamins A & E) in order to carry the shelf life of the food. Diamond does not preserve any of its products with ethoxyquin, only with mixed tocopherols.
