Innova Adult (large bites) recently changed its package and, as far as I can tell, its formula. I was wondering if anyone else noticed and had comments about these changes. It seems they upped the protein and fat levels, lowered moisture level etc. Am I right in thinking this is still a high quality, 5 star food? The dog food analysis site lists the old ingredients; the new ingredients are on Innova's web site.

Let me add that after trying out several brands of kibble I finally settled on feeding my dog (17 month old male) a mix of Innova Adult and Eagle Pack Holistic Select Lamb Meal and Rice. He gets 3/4 of a cup or so of each twice a day and loves it and is doing very well on it. Previously he was on Canidae until they changed their formula.

Thanks in advance for any comments. I'm hoping the shift in Innova's blend isn't cause for concern or reason for me to shift food again.

Not really ;) The guaranteed analysis remains the same - that is, with protein and fat contents *minimum* 24% and 14% respectively, and maximum water content 10%. It is always the case with dog food labelling that you're only given a guarantee that the content won't be more than or won't be less than a certain level. You never get an absolute statement of what it actually is (which is worth bearing in mind).

The typical analysis is exactly what it says - what is typically in the bag. And yes, this can vary from the guaranteed min/max levels (can even vary by batch). In this case, yes there is slightly less moisture typically and consequently the other macronutrient levels appear higher (but aren't in reality, as its the lower moisture making them appear so).

Anyway, as to actual formula changes, yes there does appear to be some minor changes to the formula. But they really are minor ones. That is, a little less 'natural flavor', possibly a little less herring - and the addition of flaxseed. All of which are well down the ingredient list, and only minor ingredients in the food. So overall, it's really not significant (unless your dog happened to have a problem with flaxseed, of course).

Geeze, I just switched Avery to Innova, we're still on our first bag but so far she's doing great on it.
