Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

They are very cute dogs and have great personalities--very people oriented. They are definitely lap dogs and love to be with you.

However, they have a lot of health problems. My aunt (an AKC judge) used to breed them--she does health testing and has been breeding dogs for 30+ years--and finally stopped because even with the top quality ones she was buying/breeding, there were health problems (mostly heart, I believe).

I only know two CKCs and I must say they are a handful. They definitely need constant attention. They are sweet, sweet babies and love to cuddle, but at several years old, they are still not completely housebroken.

The are in a sense like a boxer they are always like a puppy. I know like all spaniels they have troubles with hips and eyes. Mine had cherry eye in both eyes before he was 3 months old.
But a loyal devoted family member.

The people I work for (business is in the home) have one, so I see him every time I go to work. He is so sweet! Like mentioned before, they are huge lap dogs. He is always wanting to be up on your lap and has warmed mine a time or two while I work :). Theirs is very mellow, and good with their small children. I would love to get one, but my husband is concerned about the health issues. They are pretty pricey. They paid $1600 for their puppy and he was one of the cheapest in the litter. He barks whenever someone comes to the house. He doesn't like the UPS man and barks the whole time he is there! They need to be taken to the groomer, but I'm not sure how often.
